Post What games should I get to play this summer

Just got home for summer, and I am going to have quit a bit of free time. Aside from my netflix account, I wanted to find something entertaining to do. I thought I would get a few new games to play. Currently I play Fallout 3 (360), Tiger Woods golf, NCAA Football, Age of Empire II (PC), Halo 3, NBA, Forza 2, and Call of Duty 4. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Every summer I always pick out a couple of RPGs and/or long adventure titles to run through, since I don't usually have time for such a commitment during school. This summer on tap I've got Too Human, Blue Dragon, Uncharted, and I'm going to finally finish Mass Effect (even though that won't take me too long). If you're looking for time consuming, any of those games would be good.

If you're looking to waste time, just become a WoW neckbeard. Instant (anti)social success.

WoW is actually really fun and a good way to keep busy, provided you are strong enough to be able to stop when you have to. Luckily, I did. I may pick up WoW again for the summer, but it will depend on some other things.

I, to this day, remain unconvinced that WoW is actually fun. But, yeah, it sure is a time killer.

i'm just thankful that i got sick and tired of that game; it definitely made quitting a breeze.

i know of a great game called "getting a job."

What makes you think I was speaking in objective terms? I'm well aware that some people find WoW virtual stamp collecting a lot of fun.

I played WoW for three months and everyone was telling me "Trust me it gets awesome at higher levels."

No, it doesn't. It is just too repetitive. You know those first few quests as a level one character, and your first dungeon romp? Repeat until lvl 70.

As do I. Sure, the grind was shit. Especially if you didn't have a good guild. But they've made it so accessible to new players now. They essentially made it so you level 3 times faster from levels 1 to 60. With some steady playing (and probably a decent leveling guide too, being new) you should be able to hit 70 in a month, no problem. The biggest hurdle right now is hitting 80 from 70.

Once you reach the higher levels though, that is really where all the fun starts. Especially if you get into a very active guild. Raids, Heroics, everything. Plus, having never played before you really can't bitch about the grind. Everything is new and fresh to you anyways. Now doing the grind your third or fourth time... Yeah, thats a bitch.

I was going to mention getting a job too.

And you can still have time to play games, maybe not for 12 hours a day but you wont have homework or need to study.

WoW sucks for the same reason all modern MMOs suck. The game play is always the same rehashed kill n of X so you can kill n of Y ad infinitum garbage. The game play mechanics really are tantamount to virtual stamp collecting. There is absolutely nothing new or compelling about anything in WoW.

And don't get me started on the pvp. What a carebear joke. The person with the least RL always wins because gear is the only thing that matters. Plus, you have to spend a few months killing dragons or whatever in pve before you can really pvp.

And I'm sorry, but raids are not fun. Herding 40 idiots through a 3+ hour mission for the tiny chance of getting something worthwhile is just not worth it imo. And the way people get so emotionally invested in their virtual stamp collecting is even more ridiculous. The entire end game encourages anti social neckbeard behavior. The guilds I was in had schedules for raids, and docked you if you were late or missed one. Miss enough and they stop taking you. It was like they expected this game to be my second job; invest all your free time, or don't raid. I swear, I've never know someone, online or IRL, that managed to be a "successful" raider without basically dropping off the face of the earth.

    Just imo...

Then the people you know are weak I suppose. I was a successful raider while having a girlfriend and a job and a band.

But I must reiterate, once again, that I respectfully disagree.

I think I'm going to sit out of MMO-esque games until Guild Wars 2 comes out. At least I know the pvp will be fun and not entirely reliant on grinding gear. I'm not a huge fan of dragon slaying anyway.

I recently grabbed my PS2 and N64 out of storage. I plan on playing some Harvest Moon 64 and some FFX until my eyes bleed.

Harvest Moon: Back to Nature was the best Harvest Moon, and it is a huuuuuuuuge time killer. In fact, I think I'm gonna play some later.

Harvest Moon 64 was the last time I actually got excited over the thought of getting married.

Granted that was only because she took care of the animals.

I really think that MMO's should be played by putting a condom on your cock to which that condom is hooked up by a series of tubes that connect to a tank that is measured at regular time intervals by your PC and the more you ejaculate the more levels you gain. WIN WIN WIN

yeah me too actually. i hope that guild wars 2 is going to be all it's cracked up to be, though no MMO's since WoW have even delivered half of what they promise, and as i said, i'm just fucking sick of WoW.

at least i'll be able to play GW2 forever without paying a subscription.

I'm not sure about some of the purported GW2 mechanics, but as long as they don't ruin GvG I'll be happy. I'm interested to see if they do some kind of tombs replacement as well.
