    Default Hey AR guys...

Would it be worth it to swap an Olympic Plinker Plus + $430 for a Del-Ton? Both rifles are bone stock, brand new. The Olympic is a carry handle upper, all-plastic handguards, collapsible stock. The Del-Ton is a flattop, steel-lined handguards, same collapsible stock.

$430 seems a little steep. Only major difference is the flat top.

Dont you already have a flat top receiver?

Yes, but the problem is theres a serious gap at the buffer. This is causing my buffer to hit the buffer detent when it cycles, creating some nasty damage to my buffer face and it'll eventually destroy the detent.

I could just remove the detent, but I'd rather have all my parts there =\.

IDK. For $430 you could build a complete lower, and still have money left over.

    Do you have BRD yet?

You make a very good point. Actually, I could just get a stripped lower and the parts from my Oly lower.

    Whats a BRD?

Black Rifle Disease, an addiction to buying and tinkering with ARs.

And yeah, this is kind of a bum deal. Del-ton is better quality than Oly, but $430 plus your Oly is too much.

No... No, of course not... Who told you that?

Yeah after thinking it through I realized I am taking a significant beating on this deal... So I might just have to buy the Del-ton outright. :P I'm trying to get my dad to buy my Oly anyways.

I sold a gun once. I got it for free, and I sold it to my best friend, so I still shoot it alot, but I decided Im necer selling another gun.

Whys that? Just because of the fact that you still shoot it a lot? Hell, that'd be more incentive for me to sell it. Get my money out of it AND still use it frequently.

Also, my dad is definitely buying it and I've got the Del-Ton on hold . So overall its only costing me $200 for the DTI. Not a bad gig IMO.

I just dont like selling guns. If I do sell one again, it will be my Kel Tec P11. Dont really care for it much.

Lol I changed my mind again anyways. My dad is still buying my Oly, but instead of buying the DTI, I'm building an AR for less. Its going to be a Red River Tactical lower (I really have no preference on lowers, so I figured I'd go with one with a badass rollmark ) and the upper is going to be a Rock River Arms kit. The kit is only $655 and comes with everything from a milspec buffer tube to a LPK. Total price should run me about $800 and I'll have to wait a while, but I'll be getting a quality rifle in the long run.

Trust me, I know plenty about changing my mind with this stuff.

I think Ive heard of Red River Tactical, and if Im correct, I heard good things. And they do have a pretty sweet lower engraving. And RRA makes really good stuff.

I need to find a Mil Spec buffer setup for my next AR. Im thinking about putting a VLTOR Emod stock on it. And Id prefer to keep it mil spec since thats what my other AR has.

I'm not sure what kind of stock I want to put on this one, but I know I'm going to build this one right and use quality parts. I'm starting to love the Magpul UBR, but a CTR would be a much easier and less expensive replacement. And I've pretty much definitely decided on the Daniel Defense Omega rail for a free float. I love how simply it installs and still allows me to keep my delta ring.

I have the Omega Rail. If you are willing to spend that much on a rail, spend the money and get the UBR. Id love to get that one, and I may. I like how the cheek weld never changes. I wish they still had the older version of the UBR. It was sweet.

Im definitely gonna get the VLTOR rail system on my new AR though.

Just orderd my RRT lower, got a RRA M4 upper with a preinstalled YHM free float on hold for me. Now I just need to find a BCG (I think I'm going to invest in a Young chrome BCG) and an LPK. Who's a good LPK to go with?

I am so fucking pumped to build this thing.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I'll need a stock too. I'm still leaning towards the UBR. And my new Matech BUIS that I scored for $40 should be in the mail shortly .

Get the young chrome BCG. Im gonna get that for my SBR.

As far as LPK, just get what you can. I ended up having to pay almost $100 on gunbroker for a $70 DPMS kit.

Bleh, thats a little disheartening. Hopefully the FFL I'm picking up my lower from will have some LPK's in stock at a reasonable price when I go to get it.

Supposedly RRA has them in stock right now, and they're $70. I'm not sure of the validity of that though, because there are still people who ordered them back in Dec waiting for them, but for some reason people that placed an order just last week are already getting them.

    EDIT: wewt

Lower being delivered today. Upper should be here hopefully by the 20th (http://ee.ar15.com/uploadImages/2009...12500_File.JPG). After that, all I'll need is a BCG and an LPK and I'll be back in action.

Hellz yeah, LMT BCG's in stock at Denny's. Just ordered one for $152 shipped priority. Can't beat that, especially for not having to deal with Gunbrokers inflated prices nor P2P bullshit.

    Fuccccckkkkkkkkk

I wish I got paid tomorrow... BCM uppers in stock right now for fucking $475. Hopefully there will be more around by the time I get the cashola. If not, I'll still be happy with the RRA.

Hey man, I'm still an E-nothing. Money goes quick.

EDIT: Sweet, got my buffer tube kit in today. Just one step closer.

I've gotta say I am VERY impressed with this buffer tube, especially for being civilian and not milspec. It is the absolute tightest fit I have ever seen. Its literally just as tight as the Magpul CTR; not a bit of play at all. This is a Command Arms stock I had, so I didn't drop anywhere near the coin I would've dropped on a CTR.

EDIT2: Whoo... I might have a brand new LMT 14.5" upper coming to me instead...

Got my LMT BCG yesterday. Very nice piece of work.

Ran into a hiccup picking up my lower, so long story short it now has to be sent back to Texas, then here again.

Man I am raping my own thread.

The .mil store down the road just got a couple HUGE shipments of milsurp 5.56. The only thing is they're 200 for $130. Thats nearly 70 cents a round.

And if I remember right its still all only 55gr, save for a couple boxes of 62.

Too much. I would never pay that much for ammo. Atleast not now. Go to www.ammunitiontogo.com

I ordered 500 rounds of silver bear 62 gr JHP for under 200 shipped.

    So fuckin' excited.

Magpul MIAD, PMags, Troy single point sling, sling plate, RRA lower parts kit and CH, and my lower are all in the mail. Once it all gets here all I will need is my upper and my AR is already done.

    Fuck.

    Yeah.

EDIT: I think I'm going to save my pennies a little longer than I was planning and invest in a Noveske upper, or maybe a Spikes Tactical Cold Hammer Forged.

I wouldn't be ordering direct. Bravo Company has (and has had for a loooong time now) Noveske 14.5" upper in stock.

LMT is definitely on my list too.

Not sure yet. I'd love to invest in an ACOG, I've used my friends and its an awesome optic. Its just that I'm not sure if I could bring myself to spend more on my optics than I did on my damn rifle. I'm pretty certain I'll at least be buy an Eotech, just not sure which model. Preferably something that uses AA's.

While watching Deadliest Warrior today on Spike, they mentioned that the AR-15 is gun of choice for the IRA. I thought that was an interesting fact.

I'd agree that an ACOG would be a good buy (then again it's not my money), Trijicon really has their shit together. If you're feeling like a baller you can get their bling bling model-

Yeah, during the 1970s, it was the one of the easiest automatic rifle for IRA operatives/gunrunners in America to buy and ship to Ireland. The AR-18 was also popular. There are probably still big caches of Armalites buried in various places around northern Ireland today.

I had an ACOG on my M4 at my last unit. I last zeroed it in 2005, and only had to confirm the zero every time we went to the range until I left the unit last December. It was great, and I would usually shoot 37-39 out of 40 with it. I always pulled at least one shot so never qualified with a perfect 40. My lowest qualification with it came from a bad magazine. Had a double feed, cleared it, had another one, removed the magazine and stomped it into the dirt while doing a tactical reload and still hit 29. The ACOG in StrangeTimes post seems like a good idea, but for reflexive fire and MOUT I'd just look over the sight and down the barrel. Same when my squad leader had me practicing reflective fire with an M145 MGO on top of my M249 SAW. You haven't lived until you are swinging a twenty-plus pound light machine up for a quick burst at ten meters.
