Default Buffy the Vampire Slayer Movie

So a remake of the really shitty movie with the same director as the original shitty movie without ANY help from Joss Whedon?

    Count me out.

I don't understand why they think this would be a good idea. Maybe if there had never been a TV show that became so popular then they could have tried to pull it off, but people will have expectations now. I'm a huge fan of the TV show and pretty much anything Joss Whedon does, and the fact that they won't even have Joss helping with the writing (such as the '92 film) or anything really turns me off from the movie. I really doubt very many other Buffy fans will want to see this either. From other fans I've spoken to and from what I've read most fans of the show disliked the movie. Would anyone here actually be excited for this?

    Yay Anthony Stewart Head!!

    The movie's pretty bad.

Most Buffy fans will say they'll have nothing to do with it, but they'll watch it out of curiosity.

I just think it's a pretty lame idea. I don't see anything ridiculously sacrilegious about it any more than it's sacrilege to make Batman movies without consultation from Batman's creators, or JJ Abrams making a Star Trek -- what irks me is how much it smells like easy money. No creativity, no storytelling is going to go into this (if it ever gets made, which I find unlikely), it's just a cash grab.

Years from now, without the Kuzuis (I don't like them), a Buffy movie could be made without Whedon. I'd be cool for that. It'd be good for Buffy as a character to be taken out of an auteur's hands, but only if the story is treated like a story, and not like an easy way make a bit of money.

    Yay Anthony Stewart Head.

I was waiting for you to reply qwahir, the only other big Whedon fan that I know of on this site.

I don't know, I have a hard time when characters are recast as well. I saw the show before I ever bothered watching the original movie, and I just find it hard to see anyone other than Gellar playing Buffy. The same if they tried to recast Willow or Giles or any of the other characters.

I've had that problem with any sort of sequel movies that don't use the original actors.

Yeah, it's awkward, and when it's a sequel it can be unfortunate. But when it's a retelling, like this is, I'm okay with it (even though it takes some getting used to).

    This isn't a sequel, it's a reboot. It's Buffy Begins.

If they get Paul Reubens back in there - hands down the best part of the 'original' - then I'll see it. And if Merrick SHOOTS himself, like he's supposed to, instead of getting murdered (?!?!) by a vampire instead of turned.

I also heard that Anthony Stewart Head is pushing for a new tv movie and/or series called Ripper, telling the tales of Ripper and starring Ripper. This would bring me glee.

    No I'm afraid not

A series was planned and pitched to BBC, and they liked it, but then Joss and Anthony got too busy to do it. They still want to; it's just not on the near horizon.

Of all the reboot ideas, this one is the worst in my opinion.
