    Default Broke ANOTHER one...

    Dammit. I hate this.

I had the stock clutch cable in my '94 Mustang GT break about 8-10 months ago, which isnt bad for the stock one. I replaced it and it has been fine. The past few days I noticed it was much harder to shift into gear, and the clutch pedal had more play than usual in it. I installed a firewall adjuster when I installed the new cable, so I was going to adjust that to take some slack out of the pedal. I also installed an aluminum quadrant. It felt much better.

well just now I was going to get some food and went to take it out of gear to stop at the stop sign leaving my neighborhood and POP. The pedal went straight to the floor. Last time it happened, I could hear smaller pops a few days before it happened. This time it just all went at once. So I ended up having to push it and turn it around, and then SLAM in into first gear and ride it about 5 blocks home in 1st. Ive gotten lucky though. Both times it broke, I was in my neighborhood.

Is this common on Mustangs? There has to be a solution out there where you won't have to worry about it again. Did you buy some Jap parts off of ebay?

Im pretty sure it was a crap clutch cable. I needed it ASAP, and all they had in town was a $40 cable at O'Reileys. Im getting a better one this time.

Its actually rare on Mustangs. The stock clutch cables are very strong. Which is why it lasted like 15 years.

Ah I see. I've never heard of anyone having problems so that's why I asked. What do you plan on buying?

If I were you, I'd go Ford Racing http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FMS-M-7553-B302/ they seem to put out some real quality shit for Ford as far as aftermarket goes.

Got it fixed. Only took me like 1.5-2 hours since Ive done it before and knew what to do. The clutch is stiff as hell now. Hopefully it gets a little softer after being used.

Yeah, when I first bought my '90 chevy truck the clutch was incredibly stiff. It grows on you.

I had to get a local one. But it was $60. I figured itd be better, but this fucking this is already stretching. So I have to order one and return this one. I cant even put the car in gear with teh clutch all the way down. And you have to apply about 100 lbs of pressure to it. Im not exaggerating either. If Im not wearing some thick shoes, the pedal actually hurts my feet.

    Used clutch cable = fail

Plus I doubt Id be able to find one like mine, since they only made my this body style with this engine and tranny for 2 years.

Anyways. Its not a bog deal. Im using an extra vehicle we have. The Stang is still driveable, but I dont want the cable to break on me in a terrible spot.

I can't help but wonder if something somewhere in there isn't binding or pinching against it. I could kinda see the first one breaking, but another one soon after and a third on its way out points to a problem besides the cables themselves in my mind.
