Default Glad to see it back...

Been in SC for the past month, unable to access most forums or email due to .gov restrictions. Anyway, I'm glad to see yet another incarnation of this community back up. AnonyD, it looks like I'll be moving down your way come December. I'm getting stationed in Baton Rouge.

I'll pop in when I can. Hope everyone has been doing fine.

Actually, I'm kinda glad of that. While I enjoy talking guns, my "adoption" of the Armory, whether as an Admin of f15, a Mod on LWS or one of a handful of active Armory users on CD, took up far too much time over the past few years. Let's face it, the 2006 incarnation was its height as an active forum, and f15 was the pinnacle of the Armory in terms of scope and subject matter. In other words, the Armory has been gone since 2007, and I have spent far too much time trying to keep its various incarnations active. There are many other gun forums out there that I visit from time to time that stay busy regardless of any one individual's activity.

Also, my internet time is about to be severely curtailed. I expect to be working 12+ hours a day Monday-Friday, at least 8 hours Saturdays and will be spending time with the family Sundays trying to absorb some of the Louisiana culture. It will be nice if the hours are better, but I am prepared for the worst.

Do I see a southern range day sometime in the future? Louisiana is an open carry state too.

A range day would be great, I'll just have to get settled in and figure out my schedule.

Went to the range yesterday and shot a few hundred rounds.

Sounds nice, I wish I could afford the time. I'm hoping to (but doubt I will) find a nice little place north or east of Baton Rouge where I can shoot on the property. Realistically, I'll probably buy a forty year old trailer on .01 acre and tie it down with 550 cord to hurricane-proof it.

But seriously, I do hope to find time to go shooting more often in LA than I have in VA.

The NRA has a National Registry of shooting ranges, I found one in there that was only 5 miles from my house that I did no know existed. you might see if they list anything near you, though I would think you could use the base facilities.

Base ranges are nice, but I never needed them while I was at Campbell due to the proximity of Land Between the Lakes. Right now, family obligations prevent me from heading to Fort Lee or Quantico. As for my upcoming relocation, the closest military post is a Naval Support Activity in New Orleans over 90 minutes away. There should be some ranges somewhere in Livingston Parish, I would think, and I hope to get a few hours of range time a month. For some odd reason, it seems like it has gotten twice as hard to do anything away from the kids. Almost like they doubled in the past two years.

I'm pretty sure I saw an indoor place in Batonrouge when I went through there a couple of weeks ago heading to Texas. Of course it could have been any number of other cities and towns I went through.

I know what you're saying. Spending lots of time passing cities on interstates or (especially) US highways, kinda makes everything a blur. I can't remember how many billboards or radio spots I've seen and heard advertising a gun store that sounded interesting. Sticks in my head for an hour, then gets dumped for more info.

I looked up some on there, and there were some I didnt know about, but the wildlife reserve that we always go to isnt on there.
