    Default Inglorious Basterds

Who saw it? What did you think?

I loved it. I like pretty much all of Tarentinos movies though. I was talking to some people who said they didnt like it, and when I asked them why, they said because it wasnt anything like the previews made it out to be.

How the fuck does that make it not a good movie? I noticed alot of people went in expecting a gory nazi killing spree, and were met with a good story about a few different groups of people, and nazi killing here and there.

    So what say you?

There is an Italian film with the title Inglorious Bastards. Terrintino's movie is 'IngloUrious Basterds'

The movie was good. Some of the talking was a little long and slow, but the parts with Brad Pitt were hilarious. It really made the movie.

There is definitely a lot cut off from the movie. There were a lot more Inglourious Bastards whose fates are a mystery.

Uh... we know 4 of them die and BJ Novak and Brad Pitt survive. There weren't many more to follow up on.

Tarantino said that whoever was there at the end were the surviving members, the rest died in battle.

    Well, at that point, four.

But before that, there were a huge number, probably around 10. And only 2 went into the bar, unless you count Hicox.

I was wondering where he was going to pop up. I saw his name in the opening credits.

Overall the movie was pretty good, but it was a bit too long at 2:32. There were plenty of parts that I felt could have been cut to reduce the runtime.

Reduce runtime = sacrifice quality. I wouldn't have cut anything.

Same here. Thats how Tarentino does it too, he always makes sure you get the full story.

Tarantino does it by getting fanboys to suck him off and anything he does that sucks just gets written off because "that's how Tarantino does it"

i asked a little way into the film if there was any truth at all behind it (ie. if the basterds were based on a semi-real group of people, or even a preexisting urban legendy kind of thing) so it's not an entirely stupid question

anyway necro-ing this thread to say this was a fucking brilliant movie with some of the best visuals i've seen in cinema. i wouldn't have cut everything, but i would have put the story together just slightly differently. the flow didn't sit right with me -- i didn't like the pace at which the "burn down the cinema" plot and the "blow up the cinema" plot unfolded. it felt to me like lord of the rings, where one stays with frodo, sam and gollum for ages, then follows aragorn, legolas and gimli for ages and retracks over time. works in a novel, but wasn't confortable timing onscreen.

What a coincidence. I just watched this today.

And as far as how the story was told, Tarentino does shit like that. Its not hard to keep up though.

no, it's not hard to keep up. i have no problem with its followability. it's just that it didn't quite sit entirely comfortably.

    just finished watching this

possibly one of the most intense films i've watched, it was really a case of holding my breath for minutes on end

that juxtaposed with Brad Pitt's speaking Italian scene really did make me smile

my single favourite moment is, after the german guy strangles the actress, he picks up the phone and says into it "the man in the white dinner jacket", and immediately it cuts to brad pitt being tackled from two directions. it was cut together so perfectly and was one of the movie's laugh out loud moments.
