SAP Gloves, Anyone?
I'm in the market for a decent pair of SAP gloves. I understand that they're not entirely expensive, so price isn't really an object, as I'm certainly willing to drop $40 or $50 bucks for a decent self-defense tool.
Does anyone have any recommendations for me? Any ideas what I should look for, or what I should avoid?
I dont see how these would be very effective for self defense. Unless the attacker would give you the time to put them on.

I'm 18, on a college campus, in New Jersey. Pistols aren't an option.

Go start taking a martial art if you're worried about self defense. Should someone attack you, and you use these,you're in a very legal gray area If you beat them to a pulp.

Seriously a decent class on boxing would be more useful than these. They really won't help much unless you already know how to throw a decent punch.
I hold a red belt in kenpo, so I think I'm pretty good as far as knowing how to throw a punch goes.
Don't walk around with sap gloves strapped on your hands in case you get mugged. Just don't.
i think you're getting mixed up. there aren't any gloves that improve sap, but all arena PvP gloves used to make deadly throw interupt spells. now they make kick require less energy... yes, yes, it's weird that gloves help you kick, but the change was made more for balance or to content the QQ'ing casters (depending on whose side you're on)

Unless you want to look like a faggot or Mad Max then this will be the biggest waste of money you've ever spent.
Of course, it won't last that way for long if you're actually dumb enough to buy this, certainly some other dumb idea will swipe more money from you soon enough.
If you really want something to give you that extra punch, then get a little lead bar and keep it in your pocket. I have one that was in my car for a while, and it adds alot of weight to your throw.
Also wearing those gloves isnt something you want to have if you actually hurt someone really bad. Say you break someone face. You go to court, and they find out you had these gloves, and you were wearing them when the fight started, Then they can turn it around on you and make it look like you are the one who just wanted to beat someones face in.
Same concept as brass knuckles IMO.
Good advice so far, SAP gloves would not be a wise investment for self defense purposes. I've never known anyone to use them, most of the people I know wear gloves such as these:

No, SAP gloves are the ones with steel shot or other fillers are used to increase weight. The above gloves are tactical gloves, designed to be cool and lightweight while affording maximum protection to the hands.

I have a pair of the WileyX's, and they work well on missions. They haven't torn yet and fit pretty well.
One of my neighbors had SAP gloves, ordered them from Russia. They just had some buck-shot like stuff over each knuckle, and wasn't too much heavier then any other glove. Still, any knuckle dusters you can slip in your back pocket would probably be easier to find and cheaper.
I don't know about that. I think a knife would make any drunk asshole or nut job second-guess their intentions of doing harm. No question it wouldn't be up to snuff against a firearm, but if you were in that type of situation you're fucked either way.
No, don't use a knife. It MIGHT make someone second-guess their intentions, that is true of any weapon, but if it doesn't, then having the knife in the situation makes it much more dangerous for you. Unless you are a trained knife-fighter (which frankly is a pretty stupid skill to waste your time on), then a physical altercation involving a knife could is quite likely to end up with YOU, not the other guy, getting stabbed. Most self-defense instructors will tell you the same thing. Idiots who carry a knife for self-defense are putting themselves in more danger than if they didn't have any weapon at all.
Also quite illegal to carry (not necessarily to own, but to carry... even with a CWP) in many states, whereas sap gloves are more likely to be legal to carry around.
