I'm doing it online...and I'm looking for sites to get good deals on and maybe some recommendations.
I've been looking on newegg and tigerdirect and I've found a deal that might be decent.

Are you just interested in laptops? Or are desktops allowed? What are you planning to do? Light gaming, word processing, internetting, etc.

Just wait until October. Windows 7 laptops will be out and there will likely be good sales because of the coming holidays.
Wait for black friday would be my suggestion, we are closing in on it.

That actually doesn't look like too bad a deal. And in my eyes, Tigerdirect never seems to have any.
Decent mid-range gaming platform? Check.
Blu-Ray for all of your battery draining high definition video? Check.
4GB RAM and 64-bit OS? Check and check. (but make sure this refurb counts under the Win7 Upgrade)
500GB HDD? Check.
I'd say for a laptop that's a great deal. I rarely deal with refurbs, so that's really the only thing that sticks out and is keeping me cautious. Otherwise, I'd say go for it.
Pirate Edit: The only other thing is that unless you hook up a dedicated HDMI connection, the Blu-Ray drive will never use its full potential, as the max resolution is only 1440x900, whereas 1080p is something like 1900x1080. Eh, pixels schmixels.

The refurb has a warranty, so I'm not overly worried.
As for Win7, I'm not too worried about that. I'll spring for the cash for that at some point. Until then, I'll live with Vista.

Nah what I meant for Win7 is that you may want to find out if that laptop is eligible for the auto upgrade to Win7. You gotta register it at the MS website, but you get a free copy of 7 comparative to whatever version of Vista you have (Premium -> Premium, etc.)

Well, I wouldn't go starting a fight, but I myself consider Tigerdirect to be lower quality then Newegg. I think it comes more from their shady pricing schemes than anything, but every now and then I will buy something from them if the price is right. I still have my two-pack of surge protectors from them , and they both work rather well still. But I think for big purchases, I will stick with Newegg. Eh.

Also, I have the full sized HP keyboard and I didn't need no joker 17" screen. You seriously don't understand how shitty a 17" screen is. If you have a 17" screen and don't think it's shitty, you need to just save money and buy a desktop.
