GTA IV Release Date Check failing.

A bought a new copy of GTA IV today, installed it and now I'm stuck on the release date check screen which never completes. It gets to 30%, then hangs for a few minutes, then fails. I have manually activated the game with the serial and unlock code. But this stupid release date check still won't let me play!

What do I do?

I assume it's PC? Every website has told me you need the Offline Installer or some service pack.

Yes it is the PC version. I've been googling for a solution, but I only find various forum topics of the same complaint with no solution.

Could you point me towards this offline installer? If you are talking about the manual activation, I have already done that and have updated the game to 1.0.4.0.

I found the offline installer and it worked. Now I'm getting a

Fetal Error WS10

. Apparently it's linked to the windows live setup, so I'm re-installing it now to see if it will resolve the issue.

I play Europa Universalis II and that works just fine even though it was made in 2001.

GTA IV isn't even old yet. Also, what is your problem with older games? Most old games are much better than the trash that's being churned out today.

Putting that idiot's comment aside, I re-installed GTA IV and it is now working fine.
