Default [Rant] So WTF is with touchscreen all of the sudden...

Just because the iPhone is so damn trending with a touchscreen everyone gotta have it? Personally I think touchscreens are lame. I have a bad feeling that when my cellphone plan expires I'm going to have to get one with touch because all phone companies are trying to knock Apple.

And now HP released a computer with touchscreen monitor. Why the fuck would I want greasy finger prints over my beautiful display. Especially if I use it to game or watch movies. Hella lame.

Nobody is going to force you to get a touchscreen anything. There were always be the plain phones around for people and if not maybe you are just better off getting the jitterbug!

God forbid companies try to push new technologies into the household.

Well, not new, but certainly at a point where they have various uses besides ATMs and such. I mean, it's actually a pretty simple technology.

Not saying its bad technology. But it seems its being used more more trendy reasons rather than practicality. typing on a defined keypad than a smooth surface seems more logical and easier. And a touchscreen computer monitor? really? Id understand it for maybe cash registers or things of that nature but for a home pc I just don't understand why you would want that.

My roommate's laptop is touch screen, it has replaced all his notebooks.

There are uses in which it simply isn't, but many in which it is.

If you think the iPhone invented the touch screen then you are way out of "touch" with reality. People have been putting them in their cars for a long time. Also what do you think a tablet PC is?

I think he meant more that since the iPhone was released, every company is trying to make a phone to rival it.

I had a Sony Ericsson P910i like 5 years ago and that was TS, but the technology wasn't popular around then by any means.

There will always be a market for regular phones, I don't see them being made obsolete in the near, or distant future.
It's simply an option, I love my iPhone, for the simplicity of not having to navigate to things with buttons, but to simply touch them.
As far as computers go, that computer owuld be very at home in - as said - a cashpoint environment, or any interface which is permanently open, such as surveillance, system operation or service facilities.

Really its subjective to the user, if you don't like TS, don't buy it.

You won't like Windows 7 then (Microsoft's next OS release), as it's meant to come with touchscreen software built in.

You are definitely overreacting about touch screens on phones. I understand why some people would prefer buttons instead of a touch screen on a phone. I actually like having buttons so I can text without looking at the screen.

But by no way are you going to be forced to buy a touch screen phone whenever your contract expires. First of all cellphone companies don't make you buy a new cellphone once your contract expires. When your contract expires, you are eligible to purchase a new phone at a discounted rate but you don't have to buy a new phone. Secondly, I think you overestimate the percentage of touchscreen phones that will make up the market within the next two years. Right now Verizon sells 32 different phones. Of those 32, eight have a touch screen. Of those eight, only three are exclusively touchscreen (meaning the other five have some sort of keyboard). That means 25% of the phones Verizon sells have a touchscreen but only 9% are touchscreen only. I think you'll be safe for the next two years.

I can't wait for implant phones. They have cochlear implants. They have people moving mouse cursors with their thoughts. They also are doing some things with the eye. So now we'll have a HUD to see when someone calls and a little chime playing in our heads. Thought to text. But it better have bluetooth.

I saw that Blackberry is going to be coming out with a touchscreen... I was a bit disappointed as I feel like they're selling themselves out to the mainstream. But that is what a company is for. They made the Pearl (which I despise), then they made a flip-phone for everyone who's obsessed with them. And now a touchscreen.

That said, the touchscreen looks cool, and I like blackberry more than apple, so I may get it when I renew my contract next fall.

I'll be getting it if T-Mobile carries it. I like my Sidekick LX and all, but everything is so... Proprietary, I guess.

Although if Apple would sell the iPhone to other carriers like T-Mobile, I'd be getting that instead.

Other carriers will eventually sell the iPhone. However right now AT&T and Apple have a exclusivity agreement that could last between 2 and 5 years longer.

Well and you can always "unlock" a phone and use it with T-Mobile.

I think a more appropriate question is what the fuck is up with netbooks lately.

While this is true, you miss out on a SHITLOAD of features that you'd get from a provider. Like App downloads, for example. I'm sure T-Mobile doesn't have a hidden App Download feature for unlocked iPhones in any of their contracts. And over-the-air web browsing. If your provider doesn't support your phone, you're limited to wifi browsing. Theres a ton of shit that the iPhone can do that is unfortunately very limited by what the provider says you can do. Although, this also ties into the fact that most of it is shit you have to pay for, which is also fucking lame.

Yeah I was just going to say I read that. That is ridiculous. But if they don't meet their selling quota then it will be released to other companies! I'll just cross my fingers.
