    Default Garcia tackled by Ref

    http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/footbal...n=ncaaf,115984

As if Stephen Garcia didn't have enough obstacles in his life -- keeping his pants on while being chased by police, dodging determined beers until his 21st birthday, controlling fire extinguishers with a mind of their own -- now he discovers in his first career start that, in South Carolina, the refs are unnecessarily rough with you:

I'm not sure what's going on here, and certainly not about to take liberties with the ethical reputation of officials in the SEC, the league that gave us the arbiter named "Penn Wagers." But assuming a disgruntled umpire is destined to take out a stunned ballcarrier somewhere, is it really a surprise it happened during a game featuring one team from Louisiana and another whose mascot is inspired by an illegal bloodsport? In fact, if you take a regular Saturday night in Columbia, then add the State Fair and several thousand victorious Cajuns in town, a ref thumping Stephen Garcia was probaby among the more mundane events of the evening.

It's pretty clear that he was trying to shift out of Garcia's way and braced for contact. It's only when you watch the replay 15 times and slow motion for it that it looks like he's actively tackling.

Yeah, that was strictly defensive on the ref's part. He had to take action or he would have gotten reamed.

I'm gonna call "fake" on this for a couple reasons- first, the angle of the whole shot is really crummy if you were actually taping the whole play. It is focused in the whole time at the point of impact being in the center of the screen. Secondly, the ref was not in the right place for a ref to be, i.e. in a lane of traffic. Every ref knows where to stand, and that place isn't it. Lastly, the camera cuts to the teammates to catch their facial reactions. Looks very staged to me, sounds like the SEC or one of the teams is trying to launch a viral video.

edit: vvvvv oh, well ok then

    I watched it twice.

The ref made the same movements as I did when I was a Line Backer in order to fuck a ball carrier...well minus the wrapping of hands.

I call shenanigans and order the ref to pay me $100

I mean he would have gotten tackled right after that anyway.

The irony here is all the complaining about this dumb play and earlier in the game Garcia used the ump for a pick on a crossing route over the middle from his tight end that went 20-something yards.

i simply thought the ref had missed his pop warner days so he decided to get some action finally and throw his shoulder into the qb, that's my thought though
