    Default Yet Another Revolver

I recently picked up another wheelgun. This one is a first year production S&W Model 586 "Distinguished Combat Magnum" .357 Magnum.

The idea behind the whole L frame family was to create revolvers, strong enough to withstand a steady diet of full-power .357 Magnum ammunition. K frame revolvers like Model 19 are not strong enough for constant usage of the powerful ammunition using the light 110 to 125 grain bullets.

    Green is the new Red.

I love those long magnums. Especially when the part under the bbl goes the full length. Nice revolver.

The full underlug is mostly there for weight, the extra mass helps tame the recoil.

Didnt know that. I thought it was purely cosmetic. Thanks for the info.

Yeah but cosmetically it looks good. Also weight helps reduce recoil on any bang stick. Ever shoot one of those "light" composite shotguns? They kick like a mule!
