Dear mother of God, Bloodsport!

So I just watched Bloodsport for the first time in 15 years...and a piece of me was murdered today. When I saw that movie as a kid I thought it was the peak of cinema and that no one could possible match the pure, unbridled badassery of Jean-Claude Van Damme. Now all I see is 92 minutes of proof that the only thing that mattered in the '80s was cocaine.

Anyway, have any of you guys re-watched a childhood favorite film only to find it nothing but a painful stretch of disappointment?

No. I had excellent taste as a child.

But I have experienced it when watching a film sober vs high.

Eraser & Commando. I loved those movies as a kid but, by God, they suck ass.

I also loved Demolition Man. I have mixed feelings about that film now.

firestorm (a shitty 90's movie no one remembers for good reason) was awesome, though not one of my favourites, when it came out and I was 8 or 9. i watched part of it again years later and realized it sucked a bag of assholes.

it was more about seeing a movie and suddenly being able to perceive the little tricks they use. After seeing films that did those well, the special effects and lack of anything resembling an interesting storyline or character really hit home. There wasn't anything particularly special about firestorm, it was just the first movie where I really noticed these things for the first time

I loved Mortal Kombat so much as a kid it carries over. I cannot bring myself to hate that movie.

Haha, I love that one headshot of Tsang Tsung is all we need to know exactly what movie that is. Say what you will about that movie, but it was clearly iconic.

Usually I find myself liking movies even more now than I did when I was a kid instead of the opposite. Even though I loved The Battle for Endor when I was a kid and that is awful now.

Police academy isn't awful, its just a bit dated now, but they are good family films.

Airplane was the best movie ever made. That or Blazing Saddles. Now I used to love Bloodsport and all of Jean Claude van Darn movies as a kid. I even trained myself to do the splits between chairs. Now I can barely tie my shoes...

I've noticed the "effect" with TV shows that were popular as a kid. They just aren't right now.
