    Default Saw V...

So I am going to see Saw 5 tomorrow. I watched the first 2 Saws then just never saw the rest. But this one looks pretty decent. Who else is going to see it?

    Pity replys welcome.

I plan on seeing it, since I really enjoyed the first three, however the fourth wasn't that good. But I figured I may as well stick it out to the end, and see number 5.

In all honesty though unless you watch 3 and 4, 5 probably isnt going to make a whole lot of sense.

Never. Not even when it comes on TV.

I'm sick of hearing about how shocked I'll be when it 'all ends', even though Saw 6 is already in production.

I loved the first one, that's it.

Exactly, the rest go from mildly entertaining to passable to "I'll never watch this".

The Saw movies are all the same. The next one has to be more gory than the last, and there is always some crazy twist at the end.

Why the hell would you watch Saw 5 if you haven't seen 3 or 4?

    That's fucking retarded

I think they should have stopped after one. I mean, the shock value was great but there isn't really much once you take that away.

The first one was almost completely different. They were barely even the same kind of horror. The first was far more slow paced and psychological, whereas the others simply sat on the throne of gore without noticing what made the original so good. I choose to believe the others didn't exist.

Except Saw II which would've been ok if it were a standalone film.

Yeah, the problems with the movies is that there was just a complete tone shift after the first film.

And then setting 3/4 IN THE SAME FUCKING TIME PERIOD was just confusing and unnecessary, a poor attempt at tricking the audience.

When you break it down, one of the main differences is that SAW watched like a play adapted to the screen. It was very slow paced. The tension building scenes - most notably, where Adam was walking through his apartment with the power out, using flash-bulbs to see - were very well done.

In Saw V, they try to get back to the roots, more of a who-dun-it type situation. The only problem being we ALREADY know who-dun-it and we could care less. And the guy investigation - Strahm, a character introduced in IV as a retcon to take care of the main dude from III (who had an unresolved, promise to get resolved plot-line involving his daughter) - is just as boring.

    Well

There's one review slug that I read on Rotten Tomatoes that I particularly enjoyed - "This time, the theatre is the trap."

Naturally, I still plan on seeing it. Crappy movies hold a special place in my heart, especially if they have high production values. Showdown in Little Tokyo, The Happening, they're all movies that suck so bad and so hard, they're tough not to enjoy. Whereas movies like Death Race, or Speed Racer just piss me off. High concept movies that fucking fail their concept hardcore. Boo on them.

I already know what the twist is in Saw V as I've been lurking the internet, and lemme just say. It's not impressive. And it's not a twist. Not believing how it ends is different from a twist, and while the ending is shocking and disappointing, it's not a twist like we've grown accustomed to seeing in the films.

So there you have it. My .02, pre-film. I'll try and get back to you after I see it... If I survive.

I know it'll never be as good as the first one, but I'll watch it, anyway, because I've seen the other four.

So I went to go see it this weekend with my 2 friends and were not 17 so we cant get in, but we bought them online so it kinda counts as having a parental guardian there. Now this worked last week for Quarantine but this week everyone was being fucking gay about Saw V. There were 100 kids there who had the same problem as us.

Oh and the tickets were non-refundable so we couldnt get our money back. Sucks dick.

I watched it this weekend to support films that were not High School Musical 3. I gotta say, they are really dragging this shit out. They could have easily attached the meat of this film on to the end of Saw IV.

Saw I was so much better because it was made by a group of uni students (from RMIT in Melbourne I think) on a low budget. Consequently, they couldn't rely on high-budget special effects/gore.

It was pretty terrible, but the kind of terrible I enjoyed. So it has that going for it. And it felt really short, which is the mark of a well paced movie. So it has that going for it, too.

A huge minus strike because over 2/3 of the movie was a goddamned flashback. And the mark of a crappy movie is a film that has flashbacks inside flashbacks... Which this movie had.

Technically the entire film is a flashback since

Saw it a couple of nights ago. Haven't seen Saw since it first came out in theatres, so I was really tripping out on all the gore.

The next movie will take 2 hours trying to open the "box" and when they finally do open it, their will be another box inside that one.

It was completely stupid, loud, and boorish. But people got chopped up. Which is what I went for, so I can't really complain that it was artistically vapid.

    duh

It's probably Darth Vader's secret apprentice anyway, seeing as how the Saw movies, in addition to featuring gore and clever traps, is now famous for adding a second man. And a third man. And now a FOURTH fucking man. Which is why I said up above, the franchise will only end when you realize that EVERYONE in the world is involved in ALL the traps.

    Game over.

Cryptic there will be a 6th movie because you can't make 9 movies without first making 6.

This movie was awful, thank god I didn't pay to see it. Sure it wasn't the best of quality but it was horrendous all around. The two main characters in this looked so similar thanks to the dark scenes that it was hard to tell who was the good / bad guy.

Yeah I had that problem too. I had to keep checking to see if there was a bandage on their throat or not to tell which one was which.

Oh god, no. I saw that V was coming out and I though "jesus, this HAS to be the last one..."

I loved the first as well. 3 sucked, 2 was about the same shittiness, I though 4 was decent, just because 3 and 2 were so awful, still nothing compared to one in terms of actually being good.
    I dug 1 bigtime.
I'll watch V some night when I feel like getting a shitty horror movie.

The only one I've seen was where dude was having some surgery and after dying about 20 minutes prior to, whips out like 15 different tape recorders.

Blood Guts and Gore is not horror, and never will be.

Erm it is. That's all there is to the Halloween series, the Nightmare on Elm Street series, the Friday the 13th series. Should I go on? This is why horror is generally such a lame genre. It's cheap thrills based on petty violence.

    No.

All those you just named also built on suspense and "BOO MOTHERFUCKER, I JUST POPPED OUTTA NO WHERE AND YOUZ WASN'T EXPECTING IT LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLS", I mean, in Saw what do you get? Dude is trapped, he has to horribly disfigure hisself to gtfo or die.

There is no suspense, there is no feeling of impending doom, there is no fearing for yourself going into a dark room cause scary man may be there. Halloween pretty much founded itself on you not knowing where Michael was, but knowing he was close, then his ass would pop out and slash and stab.

    So.

Blood and Gore is not horror, suspense and fear is horror.

The last scene of Saw V had most of those, actually. And it was pretty scary -- to a degree. I still found it funny, due to the rest of the movie, though.
