Default Looking to buy a new monitor

My 24" Samsung 2344BW has been decent to me, but over the last year and a half, it's been getting lines on the right half of all colors. The lines continue to multiply and I've been putting off buying something until I build a new computer. However, I'm just sick of it. I'd get another Samsung, but I can't stand that the monitor turns off at lower resolutions or displays a box in the middle of the screen stating that it's not the optimized res.

I might go to a dual monitor setup in the future. But, for now I'll just go with a single 27". I'm looking to spend under $250, with VGA, DVI, HDMI, under 3ms response, and doesn't fucking turn off when I hook something up with 1024x768 lol. Speakers aren't required since I'm very happy with my 2.1 setup and they tend to be crap, anyway.

There was a deal on the Planar PX2710MW for $210 shipped from Dell and other vendors. I almost want to hold out for it to go on sale again, but no one knows if it will. I have a feeling it was phased out.

    Checking out:
    AOC 2770VH1
    ViewSonic VA2703

As for the 24" Samsung, I will just use it as a workbench monitor. Or target practice.

Yeah I've been looking to buy a 27 inch as well. I have a 2 22 inch monitors, 1 for tv and 1 for PC. I gotta figure out what to do with my old monitor though, my cheap ass friend just keeps telling me he'll buy it for $20 lol.

And I guess you shoulda bit on that $210.. now it's so expensive lol. Also I sorta want to run on DVI, I've been running on VGA all my life, and I currently use an adapter since my video card doesn't support VGA. Connecting through HDMI, does that make a difference? I thought it only did for sound, which doesn't matter if we're using speakers anyways.

I bet tax/shipping/recycling fees will kill any deals I find .

Sorry to hear about your problems with the Samsung. I have a Samsung SyncMaster series (model P2450) that is absolutely wonderful. I think it has been replaced in their current product line with newer models, but the one I have has a 5 star rating with many reviews at NewEgg (but "not currently available" since it's a couple years old now).

This is a similar one, for $200 Amazon.com: Samsung B2430H 24-Inch Widescreen LCD Monitor - Glossy Black: Computers & Accessories

Remember to use Tengu's Amazon link at the top if you buy from them

You can't really find any good 27" for 250 bucks. Also, you might want to look into LED monitors like this.

I don't know if I want to get another Samsung. I love Samsung and LG TV's, but this monitor's unwillingness to be cool with lower resolutions kind of pisses me off. Glad you had positive results with yours, though! I don't remember how old mine is, probably around 3-4 years old. The lines were an issue in the first year, but I'd squeeze the plastic at the top of the monitor a little and it'd go away. Now it's just a giant pain in the dick.

Nick2.1 - As for not finding a "good" 27" for <$250, I don't think that's totally accurate. I think I'm just going to end up getting a monitor through work. I work with several vendors on a regular basis and get free or heavily discounted stuff all the time. Not to brag, but I'm going to Arizona in a few weeks for some hands-on SAN training, all inclusive thanks to HP and their partner

Or I can just wait for the Planar to go on sale again... lol

What you guys think about this?
    http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/m...rs/ve247h.html

hm, read a few reviews, apparently this monitor has small amounts of ghosting ("gamers might notice") and the colours bloom/saturate a lot on brightly coloured images...
I dont know if I will notice, but cba buying a nice monitor to have little problems...anyone know of a decent 24" inch monitor for gaming?
Smart angle viewing feature would be nice since I tend to slouch down in my chair while gaming for long periods.

Price isn't too much of an issue.

I bought this at my local Best Buy for $249.99 a few months ago when my 25" Haanspree's backlight gave out.

Slickdeals, thats where I go for all my discounts.

I'm still thinking about it haha, I don't know too much about monitors, people are complaining it's a 1920x1080 instead of 1920x1200 and stuff, not sure not sure. I definitely have the money for this. If I order I'll probably do it in a few hours after I get some more input, but I hope it's not sold out by then.. maybe I should just order now and cancel later if need be.

I'm not too concerned about the resolution. I am just sick of dealing with my worn out Samsung. See attached.

oh god LOL. well I ordered, even against my mother's wishes, but whatever. I make my own money lol, I just usually tell her before I make big purchases .

I bought one and had to return it.

It would not get 1900 x 1200, instead 1900 x 1080 which is not nearly as sharp. Connecting via HDMI left about a 2 inch wide black unusable border all around the outside, in essence making it a 22-24 or so inch monitor. I heard there was a way to get rid of the border, but I could not get it to work under Catalyst Control.

I guess it depends on what you are going to use it for, but Id stick with a 28' and get full 1900x1200 rather than a 27'. Just thought Id point that out to you all

I found that off the slickdeals forums

The reviews on Dell look great though, I'm only concerned, well not really, I have a strong computer and video card. Temps run up to 60C with ranging from 30-99% GPU usage, I figure playing at a much higher resolution will pop my temps up T_T. Though 80-90 is still safe... I just prefer to stay around 60 haha.

-_- and now i've spend the past hour just reading differences between 1920x1080 and 1920x1200, hope I don't regret this! :P Hopefully I can pawn off my 22inch for $80 to a friend. I currently game at 16:9 anyways

27" LED LCD S-IPS 2560x1440. The same monitor they use for mac screens.

PWAHHAHA just came in. Harner, what color settings are you using? Out of the box it was hurting my eyes a little so I changed it to 9300k instead of 6500k, 5400k seems more of a summer glow-ish. though I'm wondering if going higher burns out the lights a little faster or anything. But I guess I can get accustomed to 6500

Just tested games and videos, looks beautiful. Much bigger than I was expecting. Looks huge compared to my 22. There is no source switching though, so i don't think I'd be able to use this monitor as both my PS3 and PC Monitor . I think playing PS3 would be way nicer on here.

I tried dual monitor once (I had 2 22" monitors, the old one is on my bed now) didn't like it. Excuse my .69 MP iPod touch camera.Oh yah and i'm gonna leave the plastics on for a bit longer :P

But yeah sometimes the white feels way too bright for me.

And surprisingly using HDMI instead of DVI looks different to me, I don't know if it's a good different but yeah, I thought HDMI was just a DVI + audio into one.

I left it on 6500. I agree on the brightness, it's a bit overwhelming at first. You'll get used to it. I turned down my brightness quite a bit.

There is an Input Select option when you press the menu button. Give it a shot when you have more than one input.

Edit- Looking at my brightness/contrast again - I have brightness set to 0 lol.

Oh yeah huh, well.. too late. Too lazy to go behind there again. But I have my PC plugged in via HDMI anyways, and the monitor is a monitor, so it doesn't support the TV Audio that my headset for my PS3 requires.

The color looks dull as hell with HDMI plugged in instead of DVI though, I might have to switch back. And yeah I got used to it, played with the brightness a little. We'll see how it turns out. Still love it though, the size is a bit overwhelming :P.

Oh there you go, supposedly Contrast 20 on DVI is still bright but on HDMI isn't.. well that fixed it, it's still not making sense why it's different though but whatever haha. I like my things bright sometimes, but not too bright

Oh yeah, I tried plugging in my PS3, but there was no volume control so my game was extremely loud.. I just gave up and switched back. Hopefully I get a new TV soon, but meh, I'll let my bank take a breather for now.

Y'know, I never understood why speakers aren't integrated normally into monitors still. Televisions always have speakers built-in, so why not computer monitors?

I think it has to do with the legacy of not having sound standard in computers, way back when most PCs only had a piezo buzzer unless you installed a sound card for gaming.

And now, most users probably wouldn't care about having the highest quality sound on their PCs. If they could get the same quality sound out of their monitors as they can out of their TVs, they'd be happy.

It just goes to show you how standards linger on due to inertia, even after they stop making sense.

It may not make sense, but I'm glad I don't have to deal with unnecessary extra weight and size in monitors due to shitty speakers I wouldn't use. It's not like the available SKUs would double, every model both having one with and one without speakers.
