I ordered a new computer today.
So I finally bit the bullet and ordered the parts for a new computer today. It has been 6 years since I built my previous PC, and the i7-920 is starting to show its age. even with 24GB RAM. I've upgraded memory in it, and upgraded the video card, but I finally have enough money to go balls-deep and buy awesome things. So I'm building something awesome.

Pros: It's future proof I guess, and no one in PCMR can call you a peasant
Cons: Way overkill, you spent too much, etc etc. What do you ever need 32GB of RAM for? Did you use the 24 you had? Sheesh.
Enjoy it though, if it makes you happy it makes you happy. Always fun to get a new rig!

Nice. And I remember when I went to 16GB in my PC about a year ago, everyone said it was overkill.

Actually, I occasionally max out my RAM usage. I'm on my PC 10+ hours every day with work, and often have close to 80 different programs/windows open at any given time.
I run off 3 monitors right now. I'm planning on slowly replacing them with 4k screens. I don't plan on gaming across all of them at once, so the single GTX 980 Ti should be plenty of power for that.
I also plan on pre-ordering the Oculus Rift tomorrow. VR is a gimmick, but it looks like a fun gimmick, and after play-testing Eve Valkyrie a couple years ago, I'm sold on said gimmick.

holy fuck. not ordering the oculus rift. I would have been in for $300. probably would have been OK with $400. but $600? No. Fucking. Way.

I had the exact same Oculus Rift intent and disappointment today as well.
That's a sick rig, Tengu. 80 applications at one time is bonkers. And I thought my job was ram intensive, geez!

is the $200 more really a deal breaker? it's the biggest name in a new technology and you can afford it

They'll go down eventually. I need to upgrade my PC before I get it anyway.

He could afford it, but then he dropped $3k+ on a bunch of metal and silicone.
In related news, I ordered a Viewmaster VR kit off Amazon to drop my Nexus into, they just marked them down to ~$20, regularly $30, so I jumped on that deal.
