I'm curious to know whether it is safe to always leave your computer on stand-by, opposed to turning it off when it's not being used. Is there much power consumption and can it be dangerous if used alot?

It's not really dangerous unless you burn up a video card. :'( The amount of comsumption depends on the computer. Maybe $1~$2 a day.
Someone told me that the monitor consumes a lot of power. Even if it doesn't use a lot of electricity, it still saves some if you turn it off when you aren't using it.
My computer is always on. I usually restart it once a week.
I own a laptop, so if I'm not torrenting something, or hell even if I am, the shit always stays on.
I just have the monitor hit powersave/off mode after 5/15 minutes of inactivity.
Screen Savers can suck my dick since they're useless in our Future.
I leave my desktop, HTPC and server running all the time.
I don't know if there's any truth to this, but co2 is not good for you.In fact, if you leave your computer on 24 hours a day, it could be responsible for releasing up to 1,500 pounds of CO2 into the atmosphere every year.
