I don't care about the torrent community's concept of fairness or entitlement. I just want to download, which is why I prefer Usenet.

Wrong, truly private (ie, no invites, just a completely closed community) is how you get the best torrent speeds. None of the sites I know of like this have ever cared about ratios.

Also, I'm pretty sure Usenet speeds are superior in every way.
