Default What internest service should I get?

I'm shopping around for internet service next year. For an apartment in zip 90024, I am seeing the following packages:

    Time Warner Road Runner
    Basic 1.5Mbps - $30
    Standard 6 Mbps - $40
    Turbo 10 Mbps - $50

What level of service do you think 3 college kids will need, only one who really knows how to torrent and shit, the other two either is a FPS gamer or facebook whore.

If you're splitting the cost, why not get the Turbo one, otherwise if just one person is paying for it (?) then standard is fine.
But yeah, if you're splitting it 3 ways, it's only $17/mo for the fastest speed so why not get that.

Turbo. Why pass up 10Mb internet when it's only ~$17 a month?

None of those are very fast (when you have a torrenter and a gamer) so absolutely go with the fastest.

Gaming is more latency than bandwidth bound so as long as he's not sucking down 50 torrents, and limited his upload to a reasonable percent, it should be OK. If it becomes an issue, plenty of consumer-grade routers do QoS decently enough these days.

Or if you have a compatible router you can just install 3rd party firmware to enable this and many other options:

Well, I was just trying to be a cheapass... Of course I'll talk it over with my roommates, but always good to have another opinion.

I guess I should also check around with other residents to see what they have. Perhaps Time Warner is being gay and having bandwidth caps anyway, so might as well go with the middle/lower one...
