Man that's some pretty sweet playground logic. Just because you're poor doesn't mean everyone is. Would you (well, everyone) steal a boxed game from Gamestop? No. The process of taking a master CD and making lots of duplicates and putting them in boxes adds very little to the overall price, so minus a few dollars there's really no difference between physical and electronic software theft. If you don't buy a game, you don't get to play it. Kinda like how you don't get to drive a car if you can't afford one, can't go to Disney World unless you buy a ticket, and can't smoke weed unless you buy it.
As far as it being here to stay, indeed people with pirate software forever -- until something like TC locks our computers down so well that we can't even run our own programs without some absurdly expensive key. Don't think they aren't trying, Vista already has TPM support. And then it'll be your thieving ass's fault.
