Default windows 7 sound card driver problem

So I just installed Windows 7 on a pretty old pc in my house because it was really shitty and needed to be re-formatted anyway (it had xp before) and everything is working perfectly except I get no sound because it won't recognize the sound card drivers.

Now I really really don't want to have to go download a new copy of xp and reinstall that cause I've spent way too long on this computer, and the sound is the only issue.

The computer is a Dell Dimension 8300. The specs are Intel(R) Pentium 4 CPU 3.00 GHz, 1.25GB RAM, and a 120 Gig HDD. I installed Windows 7 Ultimate RC Build 7100.

In the Device Manager it says there is no driver for the Multimedia Audio Controller

This is the sound card driver I tried to use but it won't work, maybe cause it's made for xp? It's called R58182.exe, I got it from the dell website under driver support.

If anyone can help I will love you forever.

If the sound card has a Vista driver, it should work.

Also, I think there's a way for W7 to hunt down drivers for you in Automatic Update. When I installed it on my laptop the update window was downloading all the drivers for me.

As far as I was able to find, I don't think it has a Vista driver. The problem is I couldn't find the name of the sound card in order to search for it, the only place I found drivers was on Dells website but it doesn't say the name or maker of the sound card.

I'll try the update thing but I don't think it will work or it would have right when I installed it and it found the other drivers.

Is the soundcard intergrated or its own dedicated card?

    I'm pretty sure it's integrated.

I dunno if it isn't on Dell's website for a Vista driver I'm not sure what you can do.

    http://mrdriver.com/os.php?os=vista

That site might have something or you might have to break down and buy a cheapo sound card.

I finally found a custom driver that some guy made himself to work for vista and installed it in xp compatibility mode and it worked. Thanks for your help.

Ah yeah the joys of windows 7. I too had to find sound drivers for my computer. They were not to bad to find. That and video was the only thing I didn't pick up by default. So far i'm liking it much better than vista.
