Default Opinions on my new computer?

So my current computer is about 6 years old now and I've been thinking its time to get a new one. I don't know a hell of a lot about computers, but I've done some research and I know enough to build my own. Still, any comments/criticisms/suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129021

    Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128375

    Video Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130339

    Power Supply: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139006

    Processor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115202

    RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145224

    HDD1: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136296
    HDD2: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136284

    DVD Drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827151173

All comes to about $1,200...which is what I'd like to keep my budget around if anyone has any suggestions to switch out any parts.

Not bad but I wouldn't put all the extra money into the faster memory and the raptor harddrive. I don't think it will make that huge of a difference for gaming. You'd be better off spending the extra money towards a higher end video card. If you're going to get an i7 you should complement it with a nice video card or you won't be getting your money's worth IMO.

Otherwise, everything else looks good. Gigabyte is a solid motherboard brand. I know a lot of people with that case. It's awesome for gaming rigs. Good PSU.

If you are that hell bent on the raptor HDD and faster memory you should put out the extra hundred dollars or so and try and snag up a better video card.

You can get a nVidia GTX 275 for a$ 210.

EDIT - Not that the 9800 GTX+ is a bad card. But the i7 will be bottle necked by older cards.

Actually that's kinda the reason I was posting this thread...I thought the video card was lacking a bit but I wasn't really sure what else to get. I'm definitely going to get a GTX 275 now instead. I'll probably end up downgrading the memory but I kinda like the HDD. I'm spending a good amount of money on this in hopes that I won't have to upgrade it for a long time and I don't like the idea of anything slowing it down.

    Thanks for the advice.

I personally think the Raptor is too expensive for what it is. Good choice on the video upgrade. And wise choice on the i7. Make sure you get some good grease and a decent heatsink/fan combo on that thing. Arctic silver calls for a thin line across the center of the processor. It does a good job of spreading itself across the cores by itself.

I am using the Noctua heatsink/dual fan combo. It's a little excessive but does the job.

All of the waffles.fm faggots are raving on about the HD 4870 and 4890 when it comes to video cards. They typically know their technology, even though they haven't a clue about much else. I'd recommend looking into those cards.

Always a good read. Helps you find the best card for your budget. The last page has a heirarchy of the chipsets.

    EDIT - GTX 275 for $185: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...C2A-_-14127429

Alright I upgraded the video card, got some cheaper ram, and added a heatsink/fan/grease.

Comes to almost $1,400 but it will be worth it. I think I'm going to buy it all today. Thanks guys.

Oh, I think you'll be really pleased with that case ozzy, a friend of mine has it and it's really sick. The fannage on that bitch is almost absurd though.

I'm just waiting for the girl to get in...I need someone to hold my hand while I push the button to drop $1,400 on a new computer. I know I'm gonna love it though, I'm getting tired of dealing with my 6 year old piece of shit.

    Options:

    A) Buy 2 1TBs. RAID 0 100GB from each drive, RAID 1 the other 900GB with matrix RAID

    B) Buy 3 640GB's. RAID 0 50GB from each drive, RAID 5 the rest.

    C) Buy a single 1TB drive, wait for SSD.

Why not buy a SAN and just be done with it?

I was thinking more for speed, not shear storage.

Unless I am completely misunderstanding the purpose of a SAN.

My bad, lol. I misread the options as "steps."
