How much does the unlimited data plan add to your monthly bill? I tried calling but they want all kinds of validation info and the acct isnt in my name.
On AT&T btw.
Should be about 30 bucks a month.
Source: Me.
EDIT: it is definitely 30 bucks.

Yea but wait for all the other fees that are going to rape you.
You're going to be paying for the iPhone data plan. - 30 bucks/month
Assuming you want a voice/talk plan the cheapest individual plan is 40 bucks and thats without unlimited nights and weekends and only 450 anytime minutes. So theres another 40+ dollars.
The iPhone data plan doesn't have a text messaging plan built in it so thats another 20 bucks a month if you go with the unlimited.
And then if you want the GPS or insurance on it or other features that would add up too.
I'm guessing these are the "fees" that Killuminati was talking about.
This is also why I don't have an iPhone.
Every provider has a ton of fees and taxes. I have 2 phones on my plan, a blackberry pearl with a data plan and a regular cell and it's about $130-140/month.
I'm approximately 100% sure that iPhone comes with unlimited texting as part of the data plan just like every other fucking smartphone on the planet.
Negative.

Note the separation of the text message plan and data plan while building your package.

This is the "downside" of the iphone and a reason why people believe its huge ripoff. You're paying 30 bucks for hundreds and thousands of MB of data to be transferred while browsing the web, but it doesn't include text messaging which would be a few KB at the biggest for 160 character text message.
(that said, iphone still sucks anony)
Just use Google Voice to text, problem solved.
I mean, granted the other person would also have to have an IM service (if you were going to use AIM, for example), but doesn't everyone have one? My phone is 112 years old and holds 20 text messages total (including outgoing), but even I can text using AIM. Of course, I have unlimited texting myself, but it wouldn't cost the iPhone user a penny - it'd just be data.
The point is - there are tons of websites that let you send texts to mobile phones for free. It does seem outrageous that you have to pay anything at all to text when you have unlimited data transfer, but hey. Just stick it to the man and go around it, right? Considering how most of us circumvent a point of sale to acquire our media these days, it seems like no big deal to add one more thing to the list.
I've had $5 unlimited text messaging since 2001 it doesn't affect me one way or the other, but good work on AT&T's part. Milk the fanboys for all they are worth.
Yeah so if it can do that why is anyone with a smart phone paying for text bundles.
No not with as many 3rd party applications but you don't need access to 50,000 apps to get everything you need. Iphones can't multi task, they overprice their plan, reject apps based on their own greed, limit customization greatly and spread out standard features over multiple versions of a phone just to milk people for as much as they can. Get an android phone.
well killum that same argument can be used versus every single apple product available in one way or another
Just an fyi there are like 20 android phones coming out before 2010.
Did someone say iPhone?
1st gen user here. Getting the 3gs in feburary when my contract expires.
The nice thing about a blackberry is that it is the best.
the nice thing about having a big dick is because it is the best
