Need some help with my Internet.
So last night my Internet on
my laptop stoppe working. So I unplugged the modem and router. And plugged them back in after a few minutes. Still didn't work. After messing with it I found that it will work with the comp hooked directly to the modem, but once you try and hook up the router, it won't work. It's a standard linksys router and some DSL modem our ISP gave us.

When you have the router wired up, type in your web browser 192.168.2.1. This will bring you to the router's settings. Try resetting/restoring the router through this page.
You may also want to try upgrading the router's firmware.
I was thinking it may have been the router. And I tried to get into the router settings, but it wouldn't work.
Another thing that makes me think it may be a bad router is that about a month ago, I had to take the cable going to my 360 out and put it in another plug for it to work. Like the one it was in went bad.
Yeah if you can't get into the router settings sounds like it's dead.
Sounds like your router reset its MAC clone.
Plug into the router and type 192.168.2.1 into your browser. If it doesn't work, but you know your computer's network card works, then your router is fucked. Once you get into your settings, you'll be able to clone the MAC address of your laptop and then your ISP will recognize your router as your laptop.
This is fucking annoying, especially because they don't ever warn you about this process, and I used my work computer to set up my internet.
Well last night all the lights on the router went off, and wont come back on. So Im pretty sure the router took a dump on me.
Yea. if the lights won't light up on your router, either your router is bad or the transformer is bad. BTW I think the default IP of linksys brand equipment is 192.168.1.1, not 2.1
The default is 192.168.1.1. Did you try holding in the reset button? If the router is completely dead then buy a new one.
