Default Programs that keep track of an employees hours at home?

Asking here is kind of a long shot, but maybe someone knows. We have an employee that works mostly from home doing accounting. She's reporting some pretty hefty hours and we're not getting where we want to be in terms of progress. I think she's bullshitting a lot of it but whatever...the point is we need something that can keep track of her hours at home and what she's worked on. I know programs of that nature exist. Can anyone recommend something?

Wouldn't that be illegal to track what she is doing in her own home? I'm not to familiar with the legality issues, but what you sound like you want to have is a keylogger installed on her computer without her knowing. What that would do is monitor all her activities she is doing on her computer and sends screenshots of what she is doing to you.

I know what a keylogger is and that's not what I'm looking for. I need something to keep track of her hours spent working on accounting.

Cute...but Google can't give me recommendations and possibly share personal experience.

My old housemate used to work from home and I remember him saying about a program that he had to use to do this.
I'll try and find out the name for you.

NP. They probably aren't cheap, but they can do what you need.

If you think your employee is putting in too many hours and not giving you satisfactory output why not just fire them and get someone who will. Or put them on probation and tell them they need to output to your satisfaction or they're gone. Maybe have them email you when they go on/off the clock, or ask for a detailed breakdown of how many hours they spent on each job task. I do some work online from home and I provide a detailed listing on my invoices, and let me tell you that it would be pretty hard to try to pad those hours because if you say it takes 3 hours to transcribe 2 pages (I don't do transcriptions but just as an example) you can be like 'um that should take just an hour, tops.
