Default Help hooking up wireless router...

Well my old Linksys took a dump a while back, so I went on NewEgg and got one of these.

    Newegg.com - TP-LINK TL-WR541G IEEE 802.11b/g eXtended Range 54M Wireless Router - Wireless Routers

Now Im having some trouble setting it up. With my Linksys, I just had to plug it all in, and set the password. I just cant get this one to work. Once I have it all hooked up, the internet doesnt work, wired, or wireless. I went through all the setup and at the end of it it just says that its not working properly.

The main thing I cant figure out is if I need to set it up as a Dynamic IP, Static IP, or PPPoE. Ive tried them all, but when it comes time to put in all the numbers, I cant get past that. Ive gone to the command prompt, and I wrote down all the numbers, but I dont think they are right. Mainly because all my DNS addresses are the same as the Default Gateway.

So, anyone know WTF I need to do?

EDIT: I have Windows XP and AT&T DSL BTW.

    DSL is probably PPPoE.

However you may want to call AT&T about it.

Oh, and install custom firmware. linksys' firmware blows

Sorry, I misread and didn't click on the link because . It has a model number very similar to Linksys' most common routers as well.

You shouldn't need to put numbers in at all, your IP should be dynamic, and you should be using DHCP to get that IP address. AT&T may have some sort of support page (I spent some time looking for it but it wants my phone number or me to log in or something) that will help you configure your router, barring that, call them.

So should I set it up on PPPoE or a Dynamic IP?

pppoe, the username and password are the main email for the account and its password (here in oklahoma it's [email protected] but in lousiana it may be @bellsouth.net, I don't know who your baby bell was before the att re-merge)

your dsl modem should have some kind of pass-thru mode that allows the router to be the pppoe client, at least that's how my att motorola dsl modem worked.

Your ISP modem probably handles the PPPoE authentication. If it does, you should just set it as Dynamic, and plug the network cable from the modem to the WAN or "internet" port on the router. If your old Linksys did the authentication of the PPPoE, you will have to enter your ISP username and password into the router once you select PPPoE.

I highly doubt that you have purchased a static IP from your AT&T

Also, if you have not, reboot both of them. Unplug both, turn on the modem wait a minute or so, then plug in your router.
