Thread: Fixing ipods

I will soon be undertaking a job fixing ipods of various descriptions, mainly ipod touches of varying generations. As any of you who have taken one apart will know, Steve jobs really doesn't want people to fix these fuckers.
Anyhow, to get to the point I could do with some decent tutorial videos to practise. Obviously these are abundant but they are all stupid and make it look horrendously easy. I hear they put the ipods in the oven to kill the glue to make it a matter of just pulling the thing apart with their fingers. Foolishly assuming this was an accurate indication of the difficulty and broke a couple of LCD screens trying to prize the fuckers open. So yeah, that's the thing.

Protip: Don't take jobs you are not qualified for.

I really don't get how you'd even fix an ipod touch. It's probably one IC board, an LCD and a case. If the case breaks, you get one from a scrapped touch. If anything else breaks, it'd be cheaper to buy a new touch.

well here is a free tip when someone asks you what you're going to do with his ipod don't say "I'm going to bake it in the oven"

Or are you just doing one of those "oh your ipods broken? I can fix that" type of jobs?

It is a legitimate business, I just blagged it on the basis that I can learn very quickly.

The guy buys massive amounts of them from insurance companies, most of which have no more than a faulty jack input and uses them for parts. Occasionally he buys parts from some Chinese component manufacturer.

And in response to your post I have experience with electronics, I just want to make this as easy as possible for myself.
