Thread: Schwinn Moped

I was with the Army dragster this past Wednesday when an older guy pulled up to check it out. At first I though he was on an old pre-WWII motorcycle painted to look like an Army one when I noticed it had pedals. Talking to him I found that his hobby is building mopeds out of bicycles. His bike was a Schwinn with a little two-stroke engine and he told a co-worker and myself they cost maybe $1000 to build.

No pics right now as the cell phone was full, but I plan to pay him a visit in the near future to check out his shop. His bike looked nice and can be pull started or pedaled to start it. It was complete with lights and saddlebags.

As for the dragster, no pics of it either. Heck, I didn't even bother bringing a camera to Monster Jam last weekend. Here it is, though:

I respect the mechanics going into making a Schwinn into a Moped, but they really take away from a "cool" factor in my books. The only person cool enough to ride one is Anony D.

"Cool" is relative to others perceptions anyway. I'm at a point where I care less what others think of me, having proven myself to everyone I care about.

This thing was neat. Unfortunately, where I am at right now precludes me from safely riding one, and the money is probably better spent towards a dirt bike or ATV. Still, I may talk more with the guy in the future.
