Default It was dark and pouring down raining... What could go wrong?2 car

Let me tell you what I just got back from.
Tonight we have a major thunderstorm on us. Its just about done as I am typing this. I was going to a friends house about 1.5 hours ago. Its dark and pouring down rain. Im driving along watching out for water puddles, cause those fat tires on the back of my car hydroplane easy. I start to come up on a bridge that I know floods sometimes when we get a shitload of rain, and this seemed like it could be one of those nights. I start to slow down incase its a little flooded, and when I get to it I see its not. Well I was almost right.

I hit the bridge and the water flew up all over my car and I felt something different about my car as soon as I got off the bridge (its about 15-20 feet long), I notice something different about my car but I keep going because I had (thought I had) a leaky header gasket, and I thought some water got on it and it just blew out good.

Im going down the road and Im less than a mile from my friends. Then hear about 6 LOUD clunks from under the car and my car just got a shitload louder and started shaking like it was misfiring. I thought I had sucked up some water in my CAI (which is in the fender) and my car was struggling with some water in a cylinder or something like that. Ive had it happen before and I had to get my car towed home. I kill it and was able to coast down the road to his house. I grabbed a flashlight out of my car and started looking at the car. I walked behind it and I kicked something and almost tripped.

My fucking muffler is hanging out from under my car. I was actually kinda relieved that it wasnt the engine flooded. Its like the bolts holding it to the midpipe had came loose. And the blown header gasket I thought I had was not true. So I was actually kinda happy I wasnt going to have to change those.

The muffler fell off where it bolts to the midpipe, and somehow the front part ended up pointing out the back of the car. I had to get someone to bring me a floor jack so I could get under the car and un hook it from the hanger. Luckily it was just a rubber hanger so I was able to cut it off. If it would have been welded or bolted I would have been pissed becasue I was already laying in about an inch of water.

    TL;DR
Thought I had a hydrolocked, misfiring motor with a bad header gasket, turns out it was a muffler about to fall off, and it fell off at a horrible time.

I was at work today when I got hit by the same storm. When I went to turn on my wipers to drive home they got about half way through their cycle when the wiper's motor shitfuckboomed so I had to leave my truck at work, and now I have to get that shit changed.

If it was a Flowmaster, you should have just left it off. That sucks about the muffler thing, though. Next time just run without mufflers and you'll be fine.

On a sidenote: header gaskets suck. I'm sure one of mine are blown again. The back bolts are such a pain in the ass to get to on a 4th gen fbody. Plus you need to rig your own wrenches to be able to get like 1/8th of a turn on them around the tubes.

I slept through that storm. Standing water down here is definitely no joke, though, even with the truck in auto or 4HI I take it very slow when driving through rain at night.

Sucks about the muffler, but I guess that's better than what you originally thought. My (admittedly stock) Mustang will stay garaged in the rain if I can help it.
