    Default Oh look a motorcycle

I just picked up a 1979 Honda Twinstar 185. I dont think it ran since before I was born. But it was only 150$ and came with a title.

Lucky for me Louisiana doesnt require turn signals on motorcycle. So Im chopping those bitches off. My plans for now are to buy a running motor, then rebuild the old one for a backup. Then I want to hardtail it. And maybe ride it. So lets see if I can get this motherfucker running by August.

Oh and I broke a cheap socket on it already. Fucking rusted bolts.

having just been in a motorbike accident with some moron in a car (he, without indicators, turned into oncoming traffic -- which was me), i have to ask whether it's a good idea to ride without turn signals? i mean i know they don't look cool but really

it was a pretty bad accident and neither of us were even going very fast

If I thought I was going to use them I would maybe keep them, but I wont. Also the bike only has a 6 volt electrical system, so anything to take the load off it will be nice. I would rather have my head lights not flicker then use turn signals.

Here in the state of Louisiana turn signals are an option on all vehicles. I went into a dealer the other day and was told the turn signal package would cost an extra $150 on a new truck.

Just kidding, but at least piranhas is honest about not using them. I'm pretty decent at anticipating other drivers actions on the road, but the lack of proper turn signal usage still drives me and my non-native coworkers nuts.

Nice bike, by the way. I don't know if my dad still has it, but he told me his old 1960's Honda 65 is mine whenever I can pick it up. He told me this a few years ago before I got my truck, and I never made it up his way with the truck to pick it up. Last I saw it, it needed rubber (fuel lines, tires, etc) and a seat cushion but the motor would still turn over. I don't know if it will run, though. Unfortunately, this was also right after he moved and it was outside when I last saw it after almost thirty years in a shed. If it is still outside (considering he still has it in the first place) it is probably in much worse condition.

Got the motor ordered, so my next goal is to get it stripped down to the frame and check for any bad rot. Then I need to get the rims media blasted and fitted with new tires. Thinking about grabbing some knobbies for them. Then I need to figure out the hardtail, which shouldnt be that hard.
