Another Self-Defense opinion thinggy.

Okay, so I work nights and all alone in at a hotel (as if I haven't stated that enough) and only recently did it dawn on me I might be easy pickings. The hotel doors are always unlocked, we have no security cams or measures, and I got five hundred bucks in a drawer each night and a safe tucked away behind the counter.

Yeah, not too safe.

Though I feel carrying a gun to work is completely out of the question (A, because I don't have my concealed weapons permit yet and B, my boss would freak the fuck out if he found out). So what would you guys suggest doing this type of situation? I am already carrying a knife (no Rambo knife, just a tool for opening boxes) but I still don't feel too safe.

Any offers, suggestions, or comments would be appreciated.

Get one of your friends to rob the place while you're working. If there's the fuck all security like you say then it would be pretty hard to find out who did it and you could split the money. The hotel is probably insured anyway.

Well, there are less-lethal options such as pepper spray or stun guns. Sometimes a simple baseball bat does the trick. You could also check into learning some akin to MMA. Perhaps the best thing you can do is have a plan. No job is worth getting killed for; and though no plan survives first contact you will still be much better off having thought through various scenarios and their outcomes.

If someone robs you, hand over the money without resistance. Fm is right, no job is worth risking your life for. If there is concern about your personal safety, fm is also right that the best self-defense measure you can take is having a plan to get away.

Definitely don't try to defend yourself with a knife; as I said in the other thread, unless you have real training, you are putting yourself in incredible danger by pulling a knife. I also wouldn't bother with stun guns, unless you are willing to shell out the high prices for a real TASER. Most of the cheap ones are not particularly effective. Pepper spray is your best bet if you must carry a weapon of some type. Make sure it's the stream type, not the fog type; stream sprays have better range and won't blow back on you. Three-in-one sprays are a good bet. Remember, after you spray the guy, your next step should be to get the hell out of the area as fast as possible; this is a measure to save yourself from potential injury during the course of a robbery, not necessarily to prevent the robbery itself or subdue/stop/incapacitate the criminal.

Id say go with some kind of OC spray. And def get the stream. Ive had a fogger come back in my face before. It was not pretty.

Yeah, I'm not planning on taking any lead for this job. I'm very surprised about the lack of security they have at the hotels considering we have hundreds of credit card info and cash. I've actually considered getting one of those fake cameras that look like security cams installed at my own expense. Hell perhaps the bluff would work.

Depending on what State you live in you may not need a CCW permit to carry a concealed weapon at work.

I live in Pennsylvania and the law says:

Actually after typing this I realize this may mean you have to own the business, though it doesn't say, that but I'm no lawyer.

Based on what I know of other state's laws, I'd guess that you either have to be the owner of the business, or possibly an employee with the owner's permission to carry on his property.
