Those suits of armor might be decorated but they're not "decorative", nor are they "ceremonial"; they are perfectly functional and might well have been worn into battle. As for swords, I don't know about the particular pair of swords in the picture above, but historically, swords in general have often been decorated in various ways despite being perfectly functional weapons intended for warfare, rather than decorative ceremonial weapons. This is especially true if you look at weapons from South Asian and Middle Eastern cultures, but basically all cultures have done it to some extent. It's also true of all manner of weapons and gear besides swords. That said, I don't think this is really analogous to decoration on weapons in the first place. This is basically a joke or gimmick item.

I still don't get why people are unnerved by it. I don't see the connection between buying this jokey gun accessory, and being genuinely irresponsible with guns.

Some people think showing guns to your friends is dangerous and guns should always be locked up.

In all reality, it will more than likely end up on my CO2 BB gun and stay there for quite some time.

Edit: Im willing to bet if I got a bayonet for a rifle, no one would have said a damn thing either.

To be honest, I don't have that much of a problem with that. I can see sole's point completely, without sharing the details, which is that people who want to make jokes out of and show off their guns do not acknowledge the terrible, serious responsibility of gun ownership.

The only thing in this thread that I have any problem with is Smithnumbers's post.

srsinternets, you're defending someone who nobody has attacked.

Why should Anony have to re-affirm responsibility or knowledge of gun safety? He's a well established member, and, let's not forget, this is a firearms forum.

My point wasn't really to defend, just trying to create an analogy everyone can relate to.

Neither do I, and its annoying how every gun thread needs to turn into a debate on the safety of guns.
