you wouldn't want to be close enough to a zombie to be able to use the knife, though!

He said he got it for the WTF factor. Clearly, this weapon isn't 100% serious, and, I think, it would be fair to say that neither is Anony himself.

    So what?

Right, but the any percent is what does it for me. I mean, responsible gun ownership seems to be about taking guns seriously. They're weapons. They kill. That is their purpose. I don't think guns are evil. I don't believe that guns ought to be outlawed. I do, however, struggle to feel safe in the presence of someone who worships guns. I feel alarmed by the idea that someone might think guns are something to be shown off. It's too close to believing that they're toys.

I trust very few people in this world with a gun in my presence, and not one of them would ever brag about buying a gun with a fucking knife on the end of it. They would find it crass, and so do I.

I realize this thread is largely a joke, but it's just the attitude that some gun owners (particularly on the Internet) have about being called hicks, rednecks, or just plain douchebags. They talk about how they have a right to carry a weapon, but then make it seem like they don't remotely grasp the enormous responsibility it actually is to hold a gun. They just talk about how badass their guns are. It just seems twisted and sick to me.

What can I say; hicks will be hicks. I can't really say that I'd buy such a feature, or any feature designed exclusively to make a gun look badass (save for perhaps stamping or laser engraving), but I fail to see why you feel alarmed by this. We all enjoy things differently, and, to some, guns are more than a harsh necessity.

Does the fact that you can put a gimmicky bayonet on a pistol make guns or gun owners any more (or less) dangerous or scary? I don't get it.

You anti-gunners take yourselves far too seriously. But then most of us folks who support the Right To Keep and Bare Arms really don't care what the sheeple think or do as long as they don't try to push their misguided fear based agendas upon others.

If he wanted to strap a bayonet to his boyfriends tallywhacker and parade him up and down a San Francisco street I'll bet dollars to donuts you would not have a problem with that.

I'm not really what you'd call an anti-gunner. I don't think guns should be taken away from responsible men and women who are well trained and take the issue seriously. I'm more anti-douchebag-gun-owner. I think people who view guns as compensation for small penises should not be allowed to own a weapon. That's all.

And don't even for a moment pretend that people like yourself fight to keep your guns because your constitutional rights are important to you.

Forgive me if I've turned this thread bitterly personal but once in a while I can't resist.

Yeah, here we go. Blasted liberals -- anything they can't put their dicks in they're afraid of. You say "fear based" as if it's a bad thing... I'm quite open and proud of the fact that people like you scare me. People like you scare me profoundly.

Sorry if we're pushy with our beliefs. You guys have, like, rifles and shit, so forgive us if we feel like we need to be a little pushy.

I don't even know what the hell this means, but I'd bet dollars to donuts (what an idiotic phrase) that it's some fucked-up, backwards prejudice against sex which is made doubly absurd by being said by someone who loves dearly the best compensatory device for sexual inadequacy ever invented.

Now I don't want to go getting myself knee-deep into this argument, but I do want to make a point. How do you guys feel about idiotic car owners? People who buy 20 year old Dodge Neons, spend $5000 on a body kit, a fart can, and a bigass wing, then drive like a fucking maniac because they just watched Fast and the Furious for the 25th time? In my eyes, its the same concept. I am more scared of a stupid fuck driving a car he thinks is badass than I am scared of someone with a gun that he likes to put stupid shit on. The difference is this; Anony realizes his gun is a weapon, a machine built for the sole purpose of killing. With this in mind, it sets in a certain sense of responsibility. He knows gun safety, and he knows the power he hold in the palm of his hand. I believe that with this responsibility in mind, its fine for him to blow a couple bucks on a stupid knife to throw on the end of it to make his friends laugh. Its not like he'd going to go swinging said fucking knife at his friends, or have them look down the barrel of his gun to see how badass it looks, because he knows that would be irresponsible. The moron driving the car, however, doesn't know these things. Cars aren't machines built for death, they're built for speed. They're made to get him from point A to point B faster than walking. So in his mind, he's using his car in the manner its meant to be used. So while he's driving a buck ten down the interstate, he thinks he owns the fucking road. He's weaving in and out of traffic, his fart can echoing off every drivers window. Showing off to his buddies, telling his passenger how he raced this one car... Not paying attention. He is putting the lives of every driver he passes at risk, because he is treating his tool (being his car) like a fucking idiot. Anony is treating his tool (being his pistol) with respect for its power. Sure, he may do something to make it look cool, but that doesn't mean he does not respect it. The driver, on the other hand, does a ton of shit to make it look cool, but still has no respect for the power he has behind that wheel.

So I guess what I'm getting at is this: gun owners may look like a bunch of irresponsible redneck morons who treat their guns like they're nerf blaster, but its not that way. (Almost) every gun owner is very aware of the power they hold, and how to act responsibly with it. Throwing a bayonet on his pistol is not irresponsible. Pointing that bayonet at a friend is. You guys have better things to be worried about.

Or I could do what you guys think someone who owns one of these will. Go shoot up a school and after Im out of bullets just start stabbing people.

    Jesus man. Grow up.

At the time these weapons were made, were they strictly ceremonial...?

IMO, a weapon is IMPLICITLY not ceremonial.

Those suits of armor might be decorated but they're not "decorative", nor are they "ceremonial"; they are perfectly functional and might well have been worn into battle. As for swords, I don't know about the particular pair of swords in the picture above, but historically, swords in general have often been decorated in various ways despite being perfectly functional weapons intended for warfare, rather than decorative ceremonial weapons. This is especially true if you look at weapons from South Asian and Middle Eastern cultures, but basically all cultures have done it to some extent. It's also true of all manner of weapons and gear besides swords. That said, I don't think this is really analogous to decoration on weapons in the first place. This is basically a joke or gimmick item.

I still don't get why people are unnerved by it. I don't see the connection between buying this jokey gun accessory, and being genuinely irresponsible with guns.

Some people think showing guns to your friends is dangerous and guns should always be locked up.

In all reality, it will more than likely end up on my CO2 BB gun and stay there for quite some time.

Edit: Im willing to bet if I got a bayonet for a rifle, no one would have said a damn thing either.

To be honest, I don't have that much of a problem with that. I can see sole's point completely, without sharing the details, which is that people who want to make jokes out of and show off their guns do not acknowledge the terrible, serious responsibility of gun ownership.

The only thing in this thread that I have any problem with is Smithnumbers's post.

srsinternets, you're defending someone who nobody has attacked.

Why should Anony have to re-affirm responsibility or knowledge of gun safety? He's a well established member, and, let's not forget, this is a firearms forum.

Just because you are showing off a gun to a friend does not mean its any more dangerous, and a bullet will not just appear in it.

One thing alot of people dont understand is that a gun does NOT just go off. The trigger is pulled. Id say that around 1% of accidental/negligent discharges are due to mechanical problems. As long as you follow the cardinal rules (finger off trigger until shooting, always pointed in a safe direction), which me and my shooting buddies ALWAYS do, then you are fine. Ive bitched out my share of people for pointing a gun at me or anyone else, even if I had just cleared the weapon myself and handed it to them.

those are from the armoury chamber at the Kremlin, and having personally seen these, most of them had signs of usage.

I mean, just be honest with yourselves; the only difference between the two is the fact that one is acceptable under the guidelines your society has shoved down your throat, and the other is not.

In fact, the pistol is the most humane weapon pictured in this thread.

You have a problem with admiring( putting useless toys like that knife on a pistol) because of the pre-conceived notion of a pistol as a bad, naughty thing.

Bad, naughty things are not to be enjoyed or admired.

Thus, you have an issue with a pistol being perceived as fun.

Different people have different hobbies. They like different things. Someone said something about show ponies earlier.

I fucking hate show ponies and think its stupid to parade a big animal about and say "Oh look how purty it is." I have no problem with people showing off a new gun or something for their gun they just got.

Basically, people that hate on guns will hate on guns, and people that like guns wont give a fuck what they think.

Well, I know a few guys who will admire the shit out of a well made sword, but as soon as they see a gun of equal quality they throw a shit fit.

"Those things are just for killing" they say.

When I point out the fallacy, they throw some bullshit in my face.

There is just no reasoning with some people.

You all lost me. Miller High Life and Youtube vids of the invasion have me in a very retrospective mood.

First of all, who takes themselves that seriously? I personally thought it was funny as hell when I realized my M9 bayonet would mount to my M590 shotgun. "The perfect close quarters weapon", I called it. Well over ten years later it still has yet to claim a life and it rarely leaves the safe. I still joke about stuff I have seen and done that would make most of you gag. Sad? Maybe. I still have my sanity (arguably) and am still capable of doing my job. I realize firearm ownership is a serious responsibility and conduct myself and my affairs accordingly. Taking lives in the line of duty is one thing. Doing so when it is unnecessary is another.

A bayonet on a pistol is a laugh for someone in my profession, even more so than one mounted on an M4 or similar carbine. If I were to be equipped with a pistol capable of mounting a bayonet I would buy it, mount it and lead my Soldiers into battle just to give them a story to pass down to their children. Humor (like beauty) is in the eye of the beholder. Some of us have to find humor in not only what we know but what we live.
