Depends on the gun.
In a pistol you lube the barrel and the slide so the barrel can move in and out of the slide, and the slide can move easily along the frame. Basically where ever there are moving parts.

In rifles, you want the BOLT to SLIDE SMOOTHLY back and forth inside the RECEIVER
