I'm on my iPhone right now, so I'm not going hunt down links. But go to bravo companys website and look at their complete uppers. There is a Daniel defence one for $499 that they will have in stock shortly. It's the best deal on a high quality upper I've seen in over a year.
What are the tools? Are they special tools? I have a whole garage full of tools at my disposal.

Yes. You'll need an AR-15 barrel wrench (or armorers combo wrench) and a action/vice block. Both will run you around $40 a piece for quality. If you go with a free float tube, chances are you'll probably need a proprietary wrench for that as well.
