    Looks nice, though I agree that the stock is less than appealing. Planning on using it for home defense after you get the barrel?

    Yes to a certain degree it will be my HD backup gun, my S&W is my first choice only because I am very comfortable with its handling and performance. I am planning on doing some spring turkey hunting with the 28" barrel and super full ported turkey choke (which means some sort of camo is a must) and possibly some upland birds, though the 870 is a bit heavy and slow to point for upland hunting.

    Mostly the mods and short barrel would be for playing in some 3 gun matches, and taking some tactical shotgun courses offered at the local range. Though the 870 may be a bit big and heavy they are very rugged and versatile shotguns with scads of after market parts and accessories.
