He's in the Navy, so depending on his job, location and the situation he may not be armed at all. Everyone sent over there has their little part to do. For the sake of international relations and perceptibility, I don't expect our troops to be openly flaunting their weapons. That said, I also don't expect the leaders on the ground to completely emasculate their forces. So, in short, you can bet that at least some of the troops over there are armed and have plenty of ammo.
