    Default Went pistol shooting today...

Me and my buddies went out so shoot today. All we brought were pistols though. Mainly because we all got new pistols recently.

Heres what we brought with us. Glock 19, Glock 17, XDm .40, XDm 9mm, Desert Eagle .50 AE, Browning Buckmark, two 1911s, Taurus PT100, XD45, S&W Sigma .40, and a Ruger GP100 in .357 Mag.

Over all it was a good day. We had an 18x18 steel target at about 15 yards, and another at about 25. I recently downloaded an app on my iPhone from Surefire. Its a shot timer. Gives you the time from the first shot, and the time between shots. I was using it and shooting at the target at 15 yards. I was able to hit it every time a few times shooting fast.

EDIT: Seems the time charts arent copying and pasting right.

With the Glock 19 I got the first shot off at 1.80 and was done with all 15 rounds at 6.45. Longest split time was .47 with the next longest being .37.

Then with the XDm .40 I was able to get the first shot off at 1.41 with a total time of 6.62 seconds for 16 shots. Split times were the same as with the Glock 19. I actually got a .47 split time on the second shot with both pistols.

My friends were really impressed with me being able to shoot it that fast and get a hit every time. I was telling them that proper grip and stance are the best way to get it. So I was showing them how to use the thumbs high hold and thrust the gun out infront of you.

Another thing I learned is that the thumbs high grip is a bad idea on a Desert Eagle. It will bite you pretty hard. lol

P.S. .50 AE Desert Eagles are awesome. Im getting one.

It would probably be a better idea to shoot targets or animals instead of pistols.

What are some sites that show proper grip and such as that?

I'd have loved to have been there. The Desert Eagle is a very nice looking gun and I can only imagine it's fun to shoot.

Five years later I finally bought my Tac-Four.

Thanks for the video. I also found a link that describes the thumbs forward technique. http://www.handgunsmag.com/tactics_t...306/index.html I found that it's not entirely different from what I was doing already. One thing I was doing was putting my support hand too low. Also my strong hand pushes out while my support hand pulls in. The thumbs forward technique pulls my support hand up, my strong hand can't get higher without hitting the slide, I only had to move my thumb out of the grip. I'm having to tweak my strong hand to drop the muzzle down slightly for sight picture but I hope with practice that will be natural. I'm looking forward to trying it out with some ammo.

One thing to watch out for if you have long thumbs like I do ( with Jarrett's technique ) is accidentally bumping the slide lock with your thumb.

Running that grip enough you remember where to keep your thumb

I used to do that, and I saw my slide was not locking back alot, then I realised what I was doing. Now I put my thumb on the outside of my support hand.

Yeah I've been reading up on it some and saw where others had that same thing happen. With mine my support hand thumb touches but not my strong hand.

Well, I didn't want to lose the added control of having the thumb on the safety, so I just practiced having it on the safety but out of the way

Dont put it on the safety. You can accidentally engage it, and that would be bad if you needed the gun to shoot ASAP.

Most of my guns dont have thumb safeties.

So putting my thumb on the thumb safety of a 1911 could accidentally activate it when upward force is required to activate it.

    Gotcha.

Well it seems kinda hard to do on a 1911.
