    Default Uh yes yes ya'll

    and it don't stop.

    So.
I've been thinking of adding something fancy to my 1911, and while all kinds of fancy custom gunsmithing comes to mind, I'm not gonna do that. ( A. it works just fine the way it is, B. don't have the patience to be without my carry piece for a few months while a smith works on it)

That in mind, I've been thinking of adding a laser of some sort.
Anyone have any experience with these?

Main one I've been looking at is Crimson trace:
    http://www.gsf-sales.com/crimson_trace_laser_grips.html
(incidentally, that website is run by a buddy of mine, who is a kick ass guy)

    PROs:
These are the most practical, I think. No modification to the gun, and no re-training to activate the laser if the balloon goes up. Also, I have a Pearce grip insert on my gun, so the lasermax would probably feel a bit familiar.

Pro? not sure if blocking the laser with my finger while holding pistol at ready is a good thing or not.

    CON: I loooove my current grips. ( http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/4963/img0029sgv.jpg )
They look awesome, and work even better.

Second, is the Lasermax guide rod laser.
    http://www.shooterssupply.com/html/1...ser_sight.html

PROs: This one is obviously the most OPERATOR, and coolest looking. Obviously more inherently in line with the flight path of the projectile. Also, I've seen these tested in Sigs, and they just don't break.

CON: re-train to include flicking the little laser switch. Expensive!! Have to replace my current guide rod.
Most importantly, I have to replace my slide stop. Now, as far as I understand, the slide stop to lower lug fit is a very important part of 1911 accuracy, and I'm afraid to screw with it.

    What say you?

I heard of Crimson Trace years ago. I'm not sure that the slight offset between the bullet's path and the laser dot itself will make a difference in a self-defense scenario.

Also, it looks like a lot of the prices on that site are pretty high as well.

I would avoid the guide rod lasers. Ive SEEN one break and the slide fly off the gun.

Personally, I dont care for lasers on a pistol. Or any gun for that mater. If you sight them in at a certain distance (say 10 yards) and any other distance it will be WAYYY off because of the angle of the laser. I had a green laser on one of my ARs and sighted it in for 50 yards. At 100 yards it was almost a foot off.

The only type of laser I would use would be the Crimson trace grips.

As far as the offset affecting your aim, it seems like you could put the laser and the bore parallel and have it sighted in so that the bullet would always hit something like 1 inch to the top left of the laser.

If you don't have a set of night sights I would spend the money there first, and I'm not much of a believer in battery dependent devices on a carry piece.

Night sights are my first, and usually only, mod to any pistol I'm carrying.

Yeah, I've got a set of night sights on it already.

I'm pretty sure I'm just gonna build an AR instead.
