Default How much does is cost [alcohol edition]?

I was in a hostel in Australia a couple months ago, talking to these two blokes from Holland who were complaining about how bloody expensive it is to get beer. That back in Holland you could get the equivalent national brew for less than a third of the price - in Germany even less - that you pay in Australia. What's more, Australian beer isn't exactly nice tasting stuff, more like off flavoured water, whereas German beer is world famous.

Now, there're reasons why one pays more or less in different countries; for instance, the Dutch guys were working in a winery where a Saturday night shift every mindless worker, there, gets paid AU$72 (GDP46/USD74) an hour and I doubt one could say that they could get paid that much in Holland or Germany for an unskilled job in a winery/brewery. But, nonetheless, there are differences.

So that begs the question: how much does it cost where you're from?

For exchange rates, should you care to exchange it; so we're all getting it from the same place, even if it's different days:

I'm from Auckland, New Zealand. Auckland City is pretty much the most expensive place in NZ; rated at something like 12th most expensive city in the world to live in. As far as I know, alcohol is damn expensive, here, by anyone's standards.

    Product NZD GDP USD
Glass of beer from tap (inner city bar) 9 4.54 7.30
    Box of cheap beer (12 cans) - Lion Rheineck 16 8.06 12.98
    Box of Corona (12 btls) 35 17.64 28.39
    Hendricks Gin 1lt 110 55.45 89.21
    Glenlivet 12yo 700ml 85 42.85 68.92
    Drambuie 700ml 60 30.25 48.65

Any other popular drinks or categories I should add? I'd add cocktails and things like that, but it's been so long since I've been to town for one.

So, yeah, what's is cost for a box of beer, a beer from town, a cocktail at a nice bar and/or a bottle of top shelf spirits cost where you're from?

A case of Bud Light is like $17.99 here in Indiana, a six pack of craft beer is like $8-10, a cocktail in a nice restaurant is about $8, and it varies on spirits, sky is the limit I guess on how you define "top shelf" and what particular spirit. 12-yr Macallan scotch is about $46 here

In DC, a good draft beer in a bar will run you around the same as in Auckland. I rarely buy alcohol to take home, so my feel for it is terrible, but I get Shiner's bottle 6-packs often (a pretty inexpensive craft beer), and they run around, gee I don't remember... $7 or $8.

But yeah those prices seem pretty damned expensive, aside from the draft beer. I guess it's different in the states, but here in the US the markup for getting a beer out vs. drinking it in can be enormous.

Hendricks Gin is $37.99 for 750ml here. I bought two 6 packs of Corona last night and it was like $18.50.

At the bar I work at, Bombay Sapphire is $5, Crown Royal is $5.50, domestic beers are $2.75, Imports (Corona and Heineken) are $3.75, and "specialty" beers (Michelob Ultra and Bud Light Lime) are $3.25. Ciroc Vodka is $5.50, Grey Goose is $5, Absolute is $4. Jack Daniels is $4, Johnny Walker Black is $5.50, Tanqurey is $4.

As far as cocktails, it depends if its house or top shelf. I know a regular Cosmo (I hate making those fucking things) is $8. A top shelf one is $10. Top Shelf margaritas are $8.75. White Russians are $4.75, top shelf is $6.
