Stafford also has a sports agent and a marketing agent involved in what he says publicly. I'll take what I know from personal relationships over what I hear on ESPN. We aren't friends or anything but I've got 1 degree of separation vs national news media

Sports Agents and Publicists arent stupid enough to let him go and say "I would play in Detroit, no problem, I love the city", only for him to demand a trade. Marketing value would go down, endorsements would go down, and more importantly, he would come across as a complete dick. If Detroit drafts him, he plays.

John Elway said he refused to play Indianapolis.

I didn't see his endorsements or value go down...and he was a pretty nice guy.

Brett Favre did the same for Atlanta

The difference here though is that at the time they did look like douchebags, it just got lost in history because they became legendary. Matt Stafford becoming a legendary NFL quarterback? I just don't see it.

It is just hyachachacha dumb to even bring up what he may do 10+ years from now.

Asking for a trade isnt the issue, saying he WILL play in Detroit THEN demanding they trade the pic would make endorsements go down.

Favre wanted to play, it's just that the Falcons wouldn't play him.

Also, I wasn't defending Stafford to any degree. I was just being argumentative.

It's Detroit...if anything, getting out of that town will make his endorsements go up.

    Wow you guys arent listening.

Asking for a trade isnt the issue. The issue is now that he HAS said multiple times that he will play in Detroit and wouldnt ask for a trade, there is ZERO chance that he will turn round and ask to be traded to the Chiefs or anyone else for that matter.

Detroit could trade him, although I dont think they will, but Stafford will not ask for a trade.

Companys dont like endorsing liars. Look and Bonds, and what is about to happen to A-Rod.

I think people would understand him changing his mind.

And it's not a matter of us not listening.

Pepsi, I hate to be blunt, but you are pretty wrong on this one. There is a difference between being drafted and then whining until you get traded and what Stafford has set himself up for. Stafford said he would play in Detroit and wouldn't ask for a trade. If he went back on that he wouldn't be trusted within the industry again. Joe Schmo fan wouldn't care because they'd just be like 'lol Lions', but he would look bad within the league, and for a player that is a lot more important. He'll spend at least a year there, but I imagine he is going to end up as their franchise quarterback.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if someone tries to trade up to get him.

Detroit isn't going to draft him because draft day decisions are based on interviews and workouts and not pandering in the national sports media.

Hey look, when the "if" condition is irrelevent, so is the "then" statement.

    Well their division absolutely blows.

I mean Matt Cassell was a pretty low-risk move, and he's an upgrade, but he isn't a star quarterback just because he can miss the playoffs with the Patriot's talent.

But they also got Vrabel, which finally gives them a name player on D, plus they have the third draft pick, plus now Bowe and Gonzalez actually have someone with a strong arm to throw to them. They may win their division based upon these revelations alone, depends on schedule difficulty though whether they or the Chargers will get it.

This is assuming they get their running game on track and a decent defense around Vrabel.

Uh Vrabel is like 60 years old. That's like building your defense around Junior Seau.

The Chiefs were the youngest team in the league last year, there is nowhere they can go but up. Who knows who will stand out?

The Chiefs need to trade Larry Johnson for a packet of sweets and a condom. The dude is a lazy shit, and a cancer. He can play, but only when he wants to.

Give Jamaal Charles the rock, getting a mid round draft pick as a change of pace.

    Keep Gonzalez at any cost.

Draft Aaron Curry! This is by far the most important! This kid is flat out ridiculous, and all the film I have seen on him shows he will be dominant in the Chiefs new 3-4.

Throw some money at Igor Olshansky. They need another player familiar with the 3-4, and he will provide leadership on the line, and give them some more bite alongside Dorsey.

Do NOT trade Thigpen. They will probably get a 3rd round draft pick for him. Maybe a late second. Don't take it. If Cassel doesn't work out without his security blanket (Wes Welker), they would be back at square one. Thigpen may not be a star, but he is a good servicable backup.

If they do a good few of the above, they could become contenders in that division. I bought the Chiefs cool-aid for the future before the Cassel trade. Oh and Brandon Flowers has the potential to be ridiculous if they move him to Free Safety. Just a thought.

There used to be the Dallas Texans in the 50's. They became the Kansas City Chiefs.
