I'm not taking anything away from Brown, it's safe to say that he's the second best featherweight in the WEC, and he is the champ. I just can't get over how some people are hugging his nuts for a couple of fluke wins. Aldo is beastly, and will probably be champ before too long. His experience level right now just isn't where it needs to be. Give him two or three more quality opponents, then feed him Brown, and he should be ok.

I feel the same way about Jens. Even though he doesn't really look/sound like it, he's pretty intelligent and has a lot to offer the MMA world outside of the cage. I'd love to see him start doing seminars or open up a gym or something. It's just sad to see him take loss after loss like he is. The problem is that Jens is alive and well, but Lil' Evil died a long time ago. If he can't get Lil' Evil back in the cage, he might as well forget about fighting.

Gina Carano would be much hotter if she didn't outweigh me.

and if she could actually fight. womens mma is as much of a joke as the womens basketball.
anyway who you got for the weekend?
i got franklin outpointing wandy, maybe getting a late tko
crocop by destruction if he's in the shape he says he is
velasquez by kongo having zero takedown defense

    Well let's see.
I've got Ace via tko, probably late in round two or in the middle of three. Here's the thing though. I love Franklin as a fighter, but I'd almost like to see Wandy beat him in a decisive fashion. I love Forrest Griffin as a fighter, but I'd like to see Andy beat him without taking any damage. I'm thinking that if what Dana White is saying is true, that if those things happen we could see Wandy vs. Andy, it could possibly bring back the old Anderson Silva. Maybe even the old Wandy. There's nothing some good ol' dislike between fighters to bring out the best in both of them. That's pretty hard for me to say, given that deep down in my heart, I want to see both Forrest and Ace win these matchups.

I've got Velasquez beating Kongo via ktfo. Kongo just really didn't impress me as much in his last two fights against Hardonk and Al-Turk, I've got a lot of confidence in Velasquez's ability, and Kongo only took the fight a few weeks ago when Herring backed out. I'll be shocked if Cheick can somehow pull this one off.

Swick vs. Saunders, I honestly don't care, but I'm pulling for Saunders to win it in the second round, probably with a submission.

Davis vs. Hardy should be pretty good. I'm guessing that they stand and bang and Davis drops him in the third. From what I understand these two guys don't like each other much, so it could be fotn material if Wandy/Franklin doesn't deliver.

Fisher vs. Uno is another one that I'm really not that excited about, but they could easily prove me wrong and bring an exciting fight. I'd put money on Fisher taking a UD.

Cro Cop/Al Turk, if Cro Cop is really injury free and healthy, I wouldn't be surprised to see him get a first round KO over Al Turk. I'm just hoping that he's doing as well as he claims to be. Dana had to have seen him in pretty great shape to sign a one fight deal though, so I'm guessing that Mirko is coming back at 100%.

Well let's just put it this way, if she was set to fight a blue whale, and the fight weight was set at 4000 lbs., she would still come in 5 lbs. over.

Ok really she doesn't weigh that much but she's probably around 150 and that's more than a girl should weigh for me to look at her and say "mmm".

Yeah, I kind of hate the Franklin/Silva match up because I don't want to see either of them lose.
Honestly though, I think I loss will hurt Franklin more, so I'm pulling for him. A lot of people are questioning his legitimacy as a top fighter, and a win over Wand would solidify that. Wand on the other hand is well established, and short of another first round KO, he'll be back. I'm hoping to see a really close war, with Franklin pulling it out in the end but Wand showing that he still has it.
Also, I don't want to see Silva v. Silva. Wanderlei talks about how he knows Anderson and has KO'd him in sparring, but he's never really trained with Anderson. He trained with the Anderson Silva that got submitted by Ryo Chonan, not the Anderson Silva that tore through Rich and Hendo like they were nothing. I don't see any outcome to Wand v. Anderson other than Anderson winning by brutal KO, probably in the first.

So who else thinks its ironic that Franklin beat Wandy in the exact same way that Hendo beat Franklin? I don't hear him complaining about getting points for getting a takedown and doing no damage on top now.

Well I find it ironic that Franklin beat Wandy without headbutting him or gouging his eyes out.

The Sanchez fight was great, mainly the first round.

I was rooting for Diego to win because I hate cavemen, was hoping he would be able to capitalize but good job on Guida on being able to take that kick.

I don't see why so many people hate Guida, the guy brings a high energy, highly entertaining fight every time he hits the octagon. I personally love the guy just for the way he brings the fight.

He does have great energy, it just frustrates me on how he just does damage in the guard and the action never changes, very effective technique though. Not to mention he just looks so unsanitary.

Guida has a ton of heart, but he really needs to work on his offense from the guard.
Speaking of which, that fight epitomizes what is wrong with MMA judges. Diego straight up beat the shit out of Guida for all 3 rounds, and one of the judges wanted to give Guida the win just because he had top position in the last two rounds. He had top position, but didn't do ANY damage and sat in Sanchez's guard fending off submissions and getting the shit elbowed out of him. Sanchez was clearly the one doing damage, and just because Guida was on top on of the judges wanted to give him the win. That my friends is straight up bullshit. I saw the fight 30-26, and I could see giving possibly giving Guida the 3rd round because he did start to counter Sanchez, but that is it.

Hmm I'd give first round Sanchez 10-8, next Guida 10-9, and last Sanchez 10-9.

I think it's because the judges don't only take damage into account, they also take Octagon control. It is also believed that the one on top is the one in control but yeah, I thought Diego was in control the whole fight while Guida just laid there.

Well Diego was doing damage to Guida with the elbows from that position so yeah, I'd call that having control of the action. I'd have called it a 29-27 for Sanchez, the first round was definitely a 10-8. I don't see how anyone could have given the fight to Guida though, especially a judge.

I don't know if any of you watched Ultimate Chaos last night but it was fucking ridiculous. Amazing fights all around.
Yvel looked great, he straight up destroyed Rizzo. And I got MAD respect for Atencio after that fight. He showed great heart, recovering from a beating and two knockdowns in the first round to come back and dominate the second and earning a stoppage between rounds. He came out straight up Chute Box style it was crazy.

    Not surprising lol
They should make a fighter in the game that looks exactly like Dana White. That would be funny shit.

I'll go ahead and post a short version of my UFC 101 picks here. There really isn't enough traffic in this thread to justify giving full explanations of why I think each of these guys is going to win so short version will have to do.

BJ Penn vs. Kenny Florian - I've got BJ via whatever he wants, probably as early as late in the second round, maybe in the third if he takes his time.

Forrest vs. Andy - Forrest via UD or late round submission. I already got the feeling that Anderson wasn't taking this fight as seriously as he should, and after seeing how terrible he looked at the weigh ins it pretty much confirmed that thought for me.

Amir vs. Hendricks - I've got Amir in a third round gnp session all up on Amir's head. I don't know that Amir can handle Hendricks wrestling, but then I don't know that he can handle him standing either. This has fight of the night potential if they both bring their a-game.

Grove vs. Almeida - I've got Grove taking a UD. I think his guard is good enough to negate Almeida's ground game, and he's got a good reach advantage standing. I think Grove is going to push the pace and control the fight for the most part, and he should outpoint Almeida as long as he doesn't end up giving up a sub.

Neer vs. Pellegrino - I won't even try to pick this one. They're both very well rounded and seem hungry to take this fight. This is another one that has fotn potential. I think a lot of people are overlooking this fight but I believe that it's going to be dynamite if they both come in as determined as I think they will. Just for the sake of guessing I'll say Neer via KO early in the third.

I have to be honest I can't remember who is in the other main card fight, so it must not be very important. One undercard fight that I would like to push is the McCrory vs. Howard bout. I like watching both of those guys fight, they both seem like cool guys and bring a ton of heart to the octagon. I'm not sure who's going to win this one either but I'm pulling for McCrory because a) He seems like the kind of guy that you could play video games and smoke pot with, and b) He asked to walk out to Thunderhorse the last time he fought (UFC 96?).

    That is all.

oh thanks for reminding me about ufc 101, I completely forgot that it's this weekend.

As for your picks, I actually have different speculation for the BJ and Forrest fight, but your short argument sounds good because I haven't been paying attention in MMA for a month or so.

I could see either BJ or Kenny winning, but I do see Silva on top. Forrest is a training beast though so I don't know.

BJ seems to be pretty dedicated to reminding people that he's the best at 155, and when BJ is in shape and determined it's going to be near impossible for anyone to beat him. Kenny is a great fighter and all, but I don't think that he's good enough to dethrone Penn right now. (Although anything can happen.)

Andy has seemed way too cocky lately and doesn't seem to be taking Forrest very seriously. He also looked like he was in terrible shape at the weigh ins so I don't know where his mind is for this fight. Also, Forrest has what is probably the most solid chin of anyone that Anderson has faced (Other than Hendo, who Andy couldn't seem to KO.). If Anderson does win it'll probably be by outpointing Forrest.

Hmm, did Anderson look just bigger like in the James Irvin fight or did he actually look chubbier?

And now I agree with you about BJ winning because Florian mostly submits his guys, and BJ happens to be the best ju jitsu artist at lightweight and has a great chin.

Anderson looked chubby to me. I mean he looked bigger for the Irvin fight like he didn't cut much weight if any to fight him, but he looked to be in great shape then too. Today he looked chubby and not at all in shape, and maybe a bit worried that he wouldn't make 205. (Although he may have just been dicking around and acting worried, the way he looked it wouldn't surprise me if he was being serious.)

That sucks, I always want both fighters to be in the best shape, none of that lopsided shit of Cris Cyborg or Thiago Alves vs Matt Hughes.

Penn is going to demolish Florian. I'm gonna say early 3rd round TKO, not because it will take him that long but Penn likes to punish people(see Joe Stevenson).
As for Silva v. Forrest, logically I'm thinking Anderson via 2nd round KO. Anderson is a pin point accurate striker and Forrest usually reverts to brawling. But there is always the "never bet against Forrest Griffin or Randy Couture" factor. I really hope Griffin can pull this one out, but I seriously doubt it.
I said Amir beats Hendricks via knees standing or while Hendricks is shooting.
Oh yeah and Matt Riddle is going to rape whoever he's fighting.

    Well Silva just owned Griffin.

And as for BJ, rear naked choke in the 4th. Florian was doing okay but Penn was in great shape and had better striking.

Florian did a great job of nullifying BJ's striking for the most part. He kept his lead arm extended and continually pawed at BJ while circling left, taking away his jab, arguably his most effective punch. Then to make sure he didn't run into one of Penn's sledgehammer right hooks he kept throwing head kicks to keep that hand busy.
Florian's entire game plan, however, revolved around wearing BJ out by using those tactics to stall and pushing Penn up against the cage like St. Pierre did. The only problem is that BJ was in shape, and Florian has neither the strength nor the wrestling ability of GSP. It was only a matter of time before Florian was finished, despite his intelligent fighting he was completely outclassed.

As for Anderson Silva, well he blew my fucking mind. I'll leave it at that.

Florian did nothing against BJ but try to keep from getting killed. As for Andy I was wrong I make mistakes from time to time.

Nah I also thought Forrest would be able to keep up with Silva because he never really quits, I guess Silva really does hit as hard as they say.

After these fights though, Anderson Silva just got a seat right next to Fedor in my rankings. As for BJ Penn, I can't wait for Diego to fight him, I'm rooting for Sanchez but I just know BJ will win.

Silva has been way above Fedor in my p4p rankings, although those don't really mean anything to me. As far as that goes, GSP, BJ, Machida, Faber, Brown, Cote, and a whole list of others all rank above him. To be the best p4p you have to beat the best, and Fedor has failed to do that lately. Sure he was there at one point in time but you can't just live off of your past accomplishments and still hold that title imo.

Oh sorry, my rankings are more of who would I want standing next to me if I had to fight a group of guys (I had a discussion with some people).

Fedor would be good because he's big and has a good punch, judging from his last two fights. But after Silva's manhandling, he would be awesome too. But really I think the best person to have would be Brock Lesnar because you just want big guys in a street match.

Having Brock by your side would prevent pretty much any street fight you might be getting in to, whereas is someone saw Fedor next to you and didn't know who he was they would probably think they could take him.

That fight didn't prove Silva hits hard. It proves, like Machida's fights, that with precision and timing you don't need power to knock someone out. Even Evans was talking about how Machida "hit like a bitch" and he just kept knocking him down and eventually knocked him the fuck out. Knock out power is overrated.
Thats why I love watching them fight so much. They prove perfect technique will beat power all day long.

So I heard that Forrest's problem was a broken or dislocated jaw, but I haven't heard it confirmed anywhere. Does anyone happen to pay attention to how long it usually takes between the fights and the release of the medical suspension list?

Also, KenFlo seems to be a fitting nickname for Florian, he seemed to have pissed himself in the third round.

Well it took two weeks after for Minotauro to say he had staph, but it's really up to Forrest, he could announce it today if it's obvious.

As for Florian, ALWAYS and I mean ALWAYS go to the bathroom right before any sporting match.
