He was better relative to the people he fought.

Well except for Seth Petruzelli, which further illustrates my point.

Which is why record doesn't mean much. Number of wins and number of losses doesn't show you the quality of opponents faced, how close the fight was, and other conditions. You could have a record I don't know 29-1 and still be a better fighter than someone who has a record of 60-0 over hacks.

Which is why I don't give Fedor quite as much credit as most people do, half of his wins are over cans and freak shows.

Not that I'm saying he isn't one of the best fighters on the planet, just his record is a bit deceiving.

Anyway, crazy shits been going down lately.
Leben's UFC 89 drug test comes back positive for steroids. I had so much respect for him for getting his shit together and getting all jacked up, seriously what the fuck. I hope he gets the Sean Sherk treatment(even though Sherk's test was a fluke and he didn't deserve it) and gets fucked up in his next fight.
Also Filho missed weight for WEC 36...by seven fucking pounds. Only managed to cut to 189 so the fight is going to be 3 rounds, not for the belt. I think Sonnen should get the belt by default because of that I mean come on. Sonnen's probably gonna destroy him now anyway after the cut Filho just made, plus the fact that he's probably already pretty fucked mentally.

I mean really, 7.5 lbs.? There is no excuse for that. They should take Filho out back and shoot him.

Leben.....meh, saw it coming. He has a self defeating personality. It was just a matter of time before he screwed it up.

This is Filho's last fight in the WEC too cause they're merging with the UFC. His first fight in the UFC better be a rematch with Sonnen, for the WEC belt. He shouldn't get to hold on to it because of a technicality like that.

I'm going to start betting the opposite of how I see it going. Also i guess I have to retract my p4p Faber statement. I'll reevaluate and make a new choice, probably GSP.

That was an extremely strange card, every match seemed to be an upset.

Also, Pulver/Garcia was televised, but if you went to take a pee you probably missed it. Garcia KO'd him pretty quickly.

Sonnen winning I don't think was an upset. He dominated Filho until that armbar the first time they fought, which I don't think he even tapped to, he just yelled. Anyway either Filho was high as shit during that fight or was delusional from cutting too much weight. Seriously that was just fucking creepy watching him just stand there talking to invisible people lol.
Also Faber losing doesn't say anything about his skills other than he's human and got caught. The feeling out process quickly made it pretty clear that Faber was the better fighter, and he got cocky and tried that retarded ass elbow which got him dropped. Much like GSP losing to Serra, that lose was probably the best thing that could have happened to him. Shows him that he's not invincible and if he keeps trying to pull that shit like he always does hes eventually gonna get caught.
No doubt that Faber is gonna come back and dominate him, if he doesnt get too shaken up mentally(which I doubt he will).

Another thing is that it seems like Faber shut down mentally instead of physically. He recovered pretty quickly once the ref pulled Brown off, it looks like he just kind of got caught in a wtf just happened there mode and turtled up while he was trying to figure it out. I can't take anything away from his skill, it's just disappointing to me that he made that kind of stupid mistake. I mean unless someone is about to take your back there is no reason to try for a spinning back elbow. If you're Faber there is no reason to ever attempt one because someone having your back is no big deal.

I agree about the Sonnen deal though, although I think that they should have given him the title for beating Filho, despite it being the end of the MW division anyway.

So what do you think happened with Filho?
Hallucinations from dropping too much weight/dehydration? Acid?
Maybe he just was trying to confuse Sonnen into only throwing light jabs, in which case great success!

Honestly I don't even know. He was freakin' out, man... I don't think it was dehydration because I don't think he could have even tried to cut weight coming in that far over. I'm going to go with the confusion idea.

I could really watch that fight a million times and still be thoroughly confused as to what his issue was. I liked when he was talking to invisible people.

Wow UFC 91 was one of the best cards I've ever seen.
Every single fight was awesome, and the main event lived up to the hype.

It was one of those UFC events that had I payed for it, I actually wouldn't be sad that I spend $45 on it. Well worth an illegal download.

I saw the highlights on Sportscenter, and dag, the Champ whooped up on the guy who lost (lol non-spoiler). I'm surprised the ref let it go on as long as it did.

Well the reasoning behind that, imo, was that if it had been an even slightly controversial ending there would have been a shit storm. The ref probably wanted it to be as decisive as possible before he stopped it.

Although I'm thinking that after the first ten or fifteen times he pummeled Randy in the face it was pretty well a decisive victory. I'm just wondering how long all of the butt-hurt "Brock's not a real athlete" guys will go on about this on the mma boards.

No ones questioning Brock's athleticism, but he really did not impress me in that fight. If he gets past Nog, then I will be impressed. But I don't see that happening anytime soon haha.

I've also heard a lot of(Not from you raghead, just saying) talk of "if he can beat Herring I'll be impressed" "if he can beat Randy I'll be impressed" "there's no way that's happening though". It makes me proud to have jumped on the Brock nuthugging train early.

The guy is only going to get better, and if he ever actually learns how to throw a punch he'll start killing people in the cage. Literally.

Well, I did say I'd be impressed if he beat Herring/Randy, but the way in which he did it didn't impress me. Herring took Lesnar waaaay too lightly, thought he would be a pure wrestler and expected an instant shot. Instead he got his orbital bone broken with the first punch, and was done after that. The fact that even after Herring essentially was blind in one eye and Lesnar couldn't finish him left a bad impression. The Couture fight, well I had Randy winning the first round but apparently Lesnar's takedowns won it for him even though Couture pretty much instantly got up every time, and even reversed one of them on him. I saw a huge difference in skill though and thought it was pretty evident Couture was a much, much better fighter, in stand up AND wrestling. The reason Lesnar's win didn't impress me is his complete lack of technique. He managed to catch an old man that was 57 pounds lighter than him a couple times(the elbow started it, the knee and right hand ended it) and knock him out.
If he beats Nog though, it will be hard not to respect him. Unless Nog looks like shit for the fight or gets flash KO'd, that is.
edit: also respect does not mean like lol

In all fairness, he said that he didn't want the Herring fight to end early because he wanted to prove a point. Herring's camp did a bit too much smack talking and Brock was intent on making him look bad for it.

I understand what you're saying though. I don't see how anyone(myself included) can actually like Lesnar. Although he was surprisingly very respectful towards Randy. It almost shocked me that he didn't act like an asshole at all during this whole escapade. Then again I think it was because Randy was all around pretty respectful towards Brock. That's the kind of MMA that I like to see, when after the fight they can hug, shake hands, and be friends.

A lot of people do. I'm a pretty big Brock nuthugger and even I don't know how I like the guy. Normally people with his general attitude piss me off. For some reason It seems like he has an extremely strong work ethic and is very hungry. I can't help but respect/admire a man that wants something and goes after it with all he has. Maybe I'll see him take a match lightly one day and change my mind, but for now I'm enjoying watching him work to smooth out his game and elevate himself.

Every time Randy punched him I got more excited than I ever have for any fight.
That is how I feel about Brock Lesnar.
Also lol I asked my mom(im a babby) to pick me up fight shorts for my tournament Saturday. I get home from school and there is a pair of Brock Lesnar Death Clutch shorts on the table. Good thing she kept the receipt or they'd be in the fire place by now lol

5,000 dollars but only if you enter with a team.
I "won" my division, kind of I guess. I only had two fights in my division, arm triangle submission in the first minute of the first one and the second one went to decision. Pretty much I'm comfortable on my back, so I was on my back constantly working for submissions. Almost got a couple kimuras, had a triangle locked really tight but fucked it up(more on that later), almost had an armbar too. He literally did not even attempt one submission and ended up winning on points. The guy running the event told me he thought I should have won cause the other guy didn't do shit and I was really only on my back because I wanted to be, and he also thought the judges didn't give me points for taking his back at one point. Looked over the video and low and behold, took the guys back right before he went off the mat and we got reset(with him in my guard for some reason?). Judges didn't give me the two points for taking his back, which would have given me the win. The guy running the place asked for a rematch but my opponent bitched out and didn't agree, so we both ended up with a medal.
Anyway after that I entered the Mens Beginner division. Got matched up with some big ass dude, he had at least 20 pounds(and im guessing 4 or 5 years) on me and was fuckin ripped. We start going at it, he ends up on top, were fighting and he ends up giving himself a bloody nose some how. We stopped and he cleaned up his nose, and apparently after that the judges stopped timing or something, cause the fight went on for over ten minutes when it's suppose to be one five minute round. We end up having a really competitive fight, caught him in a tight, tight triangle but fucked it up(more on that later). At the very end of the fight, after the camera ran out of memory unfortunately(I'll get pics once they put them up on their site), I ended up taking the guys back and getting both hooks in. Started playing with his neck, managed to slip an arm in and ran out of time. He beat me on points, but I'm pretty fuckin impressed with myself that I pretty much would have beaten that guy if he wasn't saved by the bell.
Took another Mens fight, literally about a minute after my 10 minute+ fight so I was gassed as shit already. Again, caught the guy in a really tight triangle, ended up fucking it up. I pretty much gave up after that, he started going for an Americana and I just wanted to rest so I tapped. In all, for what little experience I have, I did really good. I had 4 fights, won the first one, lose to decision at first but it was kind of overturned so I guess I won that too, and lost but almost beat two guys a lot more experienced/stronger than me. And if I was doing my triangles right I literally would have won every fight.
Everytime I caught the triangle, I would sink it in really, really fucking tight. Their head would be red as shit and everything. But instead of crossing their arm across my body and pulling their heads down, I would try and extend their arm and armbar it at the same time I was choking them. The last two guys(both that were in the higher division) that I fought came up to me after and told me they were about to pass out and if I just pulled their heads down they would have tapped.
Pisses me off at myself so much that I could have done so much better if I didn't make a rookie fucking mistake like that.

I would make fun, but my ground game is quite possibly the worst anyone has ever seen. So don't feel bad.

You kidding me dude I feel great lol. I made everyone look like tools by giving them such hard fights, being one of the smallest, youngest and most inexperienced guys there hah. I can't wait for Full Contact Fighter to put up the pictures, I bet I'll have one from every fight(except the first one which I ended by arm triangle in like a minute) with me putting the other guy in a ridiculous triangle and their face all purple and shit lol.
The not tapping them thing yeah that kinda pisses me off but the fact I had those guys in that position at all is pretty impressive IMO.

I was only talking about the part where you didn't pull their heads down in the triangle. It sounds like you did a great job overall.
