Its not really a substitute for weed at all. Effects are totally different.

If smoked properly (usually through a waterpipe with a torch lighter) then it can have some crazy effects, although very short compared to other psychadelics. I've never seen a trip last more than 10 minutes (followed by ~30 minutes of confusion/deep thought). If you smoke it wrong, you'll probably just get really giggly for a few minutes and sweat a lot.
