It must be understood that not all homeschooled kids are like this, though. I know of one personally who was homeschooled until high school and even prior to attending public school he had a good social life. This guy's parents must be smothering him.

To be fair, I know of one person who was homeschooled and seemed to be extremely well-adjusted and equanimous. But he was definitely the exception.

it's one thing to tolerate it, but you would actually want your child to engage in premarital sex? at least with a little social pariah like this kid i won't have to worry about his seeds being planted in any teenage girls or him coming up to me one day complaining about itchy blisters on his crotch.

He actually has some pretty good signs of being autistic. If you notice, when the woman looks at him, he looks away. Also the way he touches his hands and his inability to sense emotions. So he actually may be a savant.

He has a form of autism called Asperger's syndrome. While a lot of people claim to have asperger's and don't (these people are called aspies, look it up on encyclopedia dramatica) this kid is a valid case of Asperger's syndrome.

It takes more than homeschooling to do this to a person. People should not be so quick to judge harshly.

And if he does have Asperger's (which he may or may not), that's all the more reason to ensure that he learns how to interact properly with other people because, by golly, he'll be expected to know how to do it when he's an adult.

Putting him in a home school environment with a doting mom who's so thrilled about her son that she feels the need to isolate him from the inferior normal kids is counter-productive.

I agree, in theory, but it's not always that simple.

I think he'd be better off in social settings. But he may be in social settings outside of school that we just don't know about, and even if he's not, I'm not claiming any level of expertise to be able to judge the family on how they've brought up the kid.

Yeah, I agree. And it also depends on how high functioning - or not - he is in social situations. "Normal" social interactions might do him more harm than good depending on how severe his autism is.

My point is that if he really is getting the degree of socialization that we don't know about and that he needs, he wouldn't act like this on national TV.

There are comparative subtleties when it comes to, say, interacting with a member of the opposite sex you might be attracted to or even with people you want to be friends with. On the other hand, there is nothing subtle about the "rules" by which you're suppose to comport yourself on public forum like this.
