I watched the proper news report about this girl. Simillar to a hypochondriac, people like this crave (usualy medical) attention and usually choose to mimic an "incurable" disease. Usually rare neurological conditions.

I know a girl who is like this. She also claims to have dystonia and needs a wheelchair & crutches to get around (when people are watching).

It's pretty neurological what some people do just for attention.
