EDIT: My problem isn't with the fact that you didn't phrase it exactly right. What the white guy said about how much the black guy would charge obviously escalated the situation, but you suggested that he STARTED it by asking the black guy to shine his shoes. Maybe he was lying in the interview, but that doesn't seem to be how the thing started. It apparently started when the black guy overheard the white guy on the phone talking about how the shoes were going to be shined by his brother, and decided to make an issue out of "why a brotha gotta shine yo shoes". Hence the white guy's protestations that he wasn't in the slightest talking about having a black guy shine his shoes.
