Tina Anderson, who was 15 at the time of the rape, knew Willis from babysitting his children and from attending the same fundamentalist Baptist church in Concord, N.H.. The church pastor made young Anderson apologize to the congregation

I'm trying to look at this from your viewpoint. I think that this might not be shocking because children are victimized daily and we are all aware in the same sense that I didn't post a guy getting beheaded because people are sometimes the unfortunate subject of that manner of death.

Still, a pastor forcing a young girl to apologize for being pregnant especially in this circumstance was disgustingly eggregious. Relatively speaking, I have no right to criticize their values, but deep down I hope that people would put aside their religious tenants for some human compassion. To make someone who has suffered apologize because she slapped them in face, but her hand was forced and guided and the one who did it was suspiciously protected because he had not been charged for nearly ten years after the incident.

You see, it's not we are too stupid to realize that, but you're too stupid to understand that we know this and even though she was "just" forced to apologize for the pregnancy and for the premartial sex, not specifically for rape, she was still in essence being forced to apologize for being the innocent victim of a crime.

Do you think they make the distinction in fundamentalist Muslim regions of the world between women that consented to sex vs. women that were raped? Either the circumstances don't manner and killing these women is the only way to regain "honor," or as in this case the perpetrator is protected while the women is blamed for the act.

In any case, the result is the same.

Also, note that the rapist was also a member of the congregation, and we could only guess if he still attended before the matter came up as a public investigaton.

I wasn't defending it, go back and read most of the responses, in which people pretty clearly didn't read the article

When I read it I understood it as she was made to apologize for premarital sex BEFORE she told anyone she was raped. So noone knew she was raped and they just thought she was a little slut.

I read it either that way too, or else they knew there were rape allegations, but they assumed she was making excuses


She is a fucking woman after all

I was looking earlier and couldn't find an article definitely pointing out the pastor or if anyone else knew. However, there were many mentions that stated the now convicted rapist had been under formal investigations for a while and still attended the same church for several years after the once-then considered alleged act. It would be understandable to tolerate or not harbor any ill will toward the man because it could have been morally wrong for them to presume him guilty, but the seriousness of the crime could have at least motivated any member of the congregation to pressure the pastor or the family to help bring back the girl to seek justice.
