Post Student Arrested For Classroom Texting

FEBRUARY 17--A 14-year-old Wisconsin girl who refused to stop texting during a high school math class was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, according to police. The teenager was busted last Wednesday at Wauwatosa East High School after she ignored a teacher's demand that she cease texting.

For you younger cats who are still in high school, is this commonplace now? When I was in high school they weren't allowed either, but worst case scenario it was confiscated until the end of the day and maybe you get detention. Then again I went to a small town hick school and my senior class had about 50 people.

I've never heard of it either. My class had 47 in it...42 of which graduated.

If you enjoyed this, you need to watch Principal's Office on TruTV. Best show about retarded high schoolers ever.
    With great quotes such as:

"I can't get my education unless I'm in sweatpants."

"If you want these cigarettes you better give me 5 dollars."

And many others. Keep watching, hilarity does ensue.

Warning, hilarity may or may not ensue.

I think it may have been how the girl refused to stop texting as the reason leading to her arrest.

Still, arresting a kid for texting? Doesn't anyone else here see that as a fucking waste of tax dollars? Just take the fucking cell phone away.

    "Go to the principal's office"?

    "You're going to detention"?

    "You're suspended from school"?

If this girl didn't have enough respect to stop texting or hand over her phone in this scenerio then I doubt a detention would really phase her. She would probably welcome a suspension. Those kinds of punishments only work on those who fear getting in trouble with their parents or have a sense that staying after school or home from school is such a horrible thing. However, getting arrested and fined is a pretty big shocker. Though, maybe the cunt will have better senses and realize that when she breaks the rules or law there can be some really harsh punishments.

so when children aren't listening to their parents, the police should be called in to arrest them?

i think that discipline should be enforced in the classroom, but to get the police in on what is clearly a civil matter is absurd.

My new job requires me to visit high schools quite often. Seeing how these kids act and what teachers have to put up with is amazing. Some teenagers just don't respect the authority their educators or mentors have. Making an example of a kid by calling in a uniformed authority is a better alternative to allowing the kid to set a precedent for other children.

When I was in high school, pagers were frowned upon. Texting as we now know it was not an issue.

That's not necessarily what I'm saying. Punishments between parent and child should stay as such; between the parent and the child.

Now days in the class room it becomes difficult to discipline an unruly student. Especially when the parent has been so lax as to let them develop such an unruly attitude. But what could a teacher really do? Send them to the principals office, give them detention, suspend them? These punishments do very little to the majority of the students who actually get them anymore one of them is a vacation....

Should the cops have been called? I don't think so. I can only assume it was unnecessary and very much out of line, but sometimes examples need to be made. From this example will others in this school and that class room think twice before they decide not to listen to an authority figure? Probably.

I was thinking that there was more to the incident than reported, but this was a outrageous reaction to the circumstance.

Do explain how a modern day teacher would take the phone off of a student who is unwilling to give it up? If forcefully, then you would most likely see this in the news the other way around. It would probably play out in such a way you would see the the teacher being arrested for applying force in the classroom against a student over a cell phone. Whether it be the teacher being reported for forcefully taking the phone out of the students pocket, purse, or forcefully taking it from the unwilling students hand. Either way it wouldn't go well for the teacher no matter how necessary it was. That's just the world we live in now.....

I don't feel sorry for her. When in class, you pay attention, or at least look like you are. It is just plain rude. Getting in the police was heavy handed, but as Chedwick says, it was probably the best option for the teacher as it reduced the risk they would be exposed to if they tried to do it themselves. If I was in the teachers position and I knew I could get the cops in...well I'd certainly give it serious consideration.

I hate the attitude teachers get from pupils. They seem to have no idea that the teachers are trying to help them. You should not scorn a person for trying to better you, to give you the gift of knowledge. The amount of kids I know who acted like cunts in school, but not regret it as they can't get a decent job often puts a smile on my face.
