Default Hey Son, lets go to the shootin range! VIDEO INCLUDED

    Story Here

The video is in the link, I've quoted the article for those who don't want to watch it.

Video Included, not for the faint of heart. Not that you see that much, obvious editing & frame removal, but you see the before and after.
And by video, I mean you see the Mom point, aim, and pull the trigger, then you see the son drop.

Quote Originally Posted by Entire Article
Notes left behind by a woman who shot her son Sunday and then took her own life leave no doubt that her actions were planned in advance.

"I'm so sorry," Marie Moore wrote in one note. "I had to send my son to heaven and myself to Hell."

All three notes were written to "King," and that note and one other were signed "Failed Queen."

Family members found the notes and audio tapes late Monday and turned them over to police, Casselberry deputy police Chief Bill McNeil said.

McNeil said investigators still have not determined why the woman killed her 20-year-old son, Mitchell, at the Shoot Straight range in Casselberry and then shot herself, but in two of the notes Marie Moore, 44, wrote: "I had to save my son."

She apologized for what she did before she did it, McNeil said.

The horrific shooting was captured by security video at the gun range.

Moore explains in the notes that she signed over the title to her truck, left the keys in it and also left behind $7,900 cash and a check.

"I'm sorry King thats all thats left," she wrote in one note. She went on to write: "Save yourself you go to heaven with Mitch I love you forever & ever."

Mitchell Moore died at the scene and his mother died a short time later at Florida Hospital Altamonte.

On audio recordings left for her family, police and gun range owners, Moore apologized for what she had done, but said God commanded her to do it. She said God made her the 'Antichrist,' and that she must die to save her boyfriend, son and the world from violence, and her mother, father and brother from hell.

"You have a gun, you can do it," she said God told her while she was in a mental hospital. "I have to die and go to hell so there can be a thousand years peace on Earth."

Her fate made no sense to Moore.

"I don't know how all this happened. It's not in the Bible," she adds later. "No forgiveness for me. That's not in the Bible. The Antichrist being a woman."

"At one point in the video you can see Mitchell Moore firing his pistol down range," Casselberry officer Jeffrey Shumway wrote in his incident report. "Marie Moore walked up behind Mitchell Moore and pointed a revolver at the back of his head and fired a single shot. The act appeared to be deliberate.

"Mitchell Moore immediately went down from the shot," Shumway wrote. "Marie Moore then placed the pistol in her mouth and fired a single shot."

The murder weapon was a gun rented from the shooting range.

There are restrictions about gun ownership in some cases of mental incompetence, but that would not stop a person from renting a gun at a shooting range, McNeil said

This is messed. Apparently nutcases can rent guns...

I watched the video to prove to myself that I could without it doing anything to me. Who does that?!

It's really just a series of stills, probably because the security camera was one of those that captures an image every second or two instead of shooting continual footage. In one still she is pointing the gun at the guy, in the next he is lying on the ground. You never actually see anyone get shot.

welp it's still probably disturbing and gratuitous enough to not warrant a watch

Because NICS checks aren't run against range rentals. A form 4473 would have caught this, so she wouldn't have been able to buy a gun (due to the fact that she had previously been in a mental hospital), but renting a gun at a shooting range doesn't require a 4473. I wouldn't be surprised if this is the first such incident ever to occur, so it's not surprising that nobody has ever tried to get NICS/4473 requirements attached to range rentals.

not to be gruesome, but this makes me wonder how many suicides occur at gun ranges.

most people don't realize that there is actually much clearer, strong correlation between an increase in suicides and gun posessions rather than homocides and gun posession.

That's a good question. My first guess would be that it's quite rare, but this is based mainly on the fact that I've really never heard a gun-control organization call for increased precautions against who can rent guns at ranges, and as a general rule, certain gun-control organizations will try to make a stink out of ANY sub-category of gun violence no matter how uncommon (e.g., .50-caliber rifles).

Furthermore, guns have two advantages as suicide weapons: The first is that they're readily available in many homes, and the second is that they're so quick and easy to use (literally a "point and click" suicide). When you have to go to a range and rent the weapon, that takes away the first advantage, so I'd suspect that it might make a lot of people more likely to choose some method that isn't so quick and easy, but is readily available to them. All this is just conjecture on my part, though.

I was going to say that allowing children to a gun range is a crime enough as it is but then I read the article and found out her son was 20. Now I don't understand why she decided to take her son's life in the first place.

She was severely mentally ill. She heard God talking to her in her head and telling her to do things. According to the article in the OP:

"On audio recordings left for her family, police and gun range owners, Moore apologized for what she had done, but said God commanded her to do it. She said God made her the 'Antichrist,' and that she must die to save her boyfriend, son and the world from violence, and her mother, father and brother from hell.

"You have a gun, you can do it," she said God told her while she was in a mental hospital. "I have to die and go to hell so there can be a thousand years peace on Earth.""

Sounds like textbook schizophrenia to me. So basically, the reason that she decided to take her son's life is that she was shithouse crazy.

So I Google'd "suicide shooting range," and found a link in one of the first results that went to this article. Apparently, suicides at shooting ranges occur with enough frequency to be of some concern:

Hmm, going by that article's (indirect) citation of a finding that "on average there is one suicide at a shooting range every four to six years", that could be as many as a few hundred gun range suicides per year (I'm not sure of the exact number of ranges in the US; Wikipedia suggests it ranges from more than 1 per 100,000 residents in gun-friendly states, to 1 for every several 100K residents in less gun-friendly states... assuming a national average of 1 range per 200,000 people gives us 300 range suicides per year). I'll admit this surprises me. I never would have guessed it was that prevalent.

I agree in principle, but it's illegal for the NICS background check system to be used on her unless she's buying a gun. The legislation that establishes the system makes it clear that it's for purchases made from FFLs only.
